Race Recap: Dallas Merrell Down & Dirty

By |July 31st, 2014|

At this location for the Merrell Down & Dirty series I will have to say that the 5k distance was pretty easy for me and the obstacles were semi-challenging. Everything ran smoothly, I liked their setup, location, vendors, announcers, volunteers and how organized everything was. Also just the enthusiasm from everyone I encountered was superb and I will definitely do this race series again and recommend it to my friends.

BattleFrog NY-NJ-CT Race Turning Into USA vs. Canada Challenge

By |July 30th, 2014|

As if it were not exciting enough with challenging obstacles and live demonstrations featuring U.S. Navy SEALs and a McDonnell-Douglas 600 Special Mission Bird helicopter, leaders of BattleFrog today announced that its NY-NJ-CT event is shaping up to be a United States of America vs. Canada challenge with top-ranked obstacle course race athletes from both nations announcing that they will compete on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Englishtown, New Jersey.

Colorado Obstacles Racers Trifecta

By |July 30th, 2014|

This past weekend in Utah was huge for over 2 dozen Colorado Obstacles Racers. We all completed our Spartan Trifecta. For those of you who do not know what that means, it is completing the 3 distances in the Spartan racing series. The Sprint which is usually 4 + miles, the Super 8 + miles and the Beast 10+. By all accounts we completed a marathon of obstacle racing. My races were 27 miles total with over 90 obstacles.

Gear Review: Geigerrig Pressurized Hydration Packs

By |July 29th, 2014|

Ever have a certain product that you use just about every day and can’t be without? Well for me, this is it. Geigerrig Hydration backpacks are simply one of a kind and stand-alone from the rest of the competition! Geigerrig Hydration packs are a total game changer! What makes these hydration packs different from others is its pressurized system to squirt out water wherever needed. All you do is pump it (it comes with a easy to reach hand pump) to create the pressure & you're ready to drink or spray it. They are one of my favorite things I own for OCR’s.

The Fall and Rise of Dirty Girl Mud Run

By |July 28th, 2014|

On the morning of Thursday, July 24, EventBrite started receiving a few emails and calls from customers looking for Dirty Girl refunds. While the slow trickle wasn't too peculiar, demands for refunds come with the territory - even for events that have a No Refund policy that you must click to accept before registering - as the flow of inquiries grew into a torrent of angry customers, the staff needed to get to the bottom if it. Dirty Girl had to date been a great customer, and there was no advance notice that the Charleston, West Virginia date was in danger of being held. The confusion gave way to a sickening feeling when the EventBrite staff pulled up Dirty Girl's Facebook page, and saw the comment above. With the WV event cancelled without notice, the worst was yet to come.

Race Recap: BattleFrog DC

By |July 28th, 2014|

Upon leaving my hotel for Battlefrog’s Greater DC event the receptionist said to keep an eye out for deer in the road while driving to the venue. To me, nothing else can better explain just how “out there” this venue was. And it made for an excellent race. From the race, to the festival, to the volunteers and workers, this was one very well executed event. Despite being new to the OCR scene, Battlefrog has set a very high bar.

Race Recap: Cannonball Rush

By |July 25th, 2014|

It’s a beautiful sunny day and the breeze is gently cooling us as it sweeps across Lake Ontario and down the hill to meet us. Nervous racers are gathered at the base of the Fort Henry hill awaiting the final instructions before the first annual military Cannonball Rush 5K begins.

Race Recap: Urban Raid – Boston

By |July 24th, 2014|

Urban RAID does a nice job handling the unique challenges that a city obstacle course race represents. The course was well organized and the obstacles, while not overly challenging, were solidly built and fun. I would definitely recommend this race to anyone looking for something a little different than the typical obstacle course race.

Race Recap: BattleFrog – South Carolina

By |July 23rd, 2014|

A quick thunder storm came in Friday night at Carolina Adventure World to set the tone for the race weekend in which Battle Frog held its second event ever. The storm cooled the air for a little while that night, but it wasn't enough to save anybody from the blistering heat to come during the race. The sun was already shining bright by the time the elite heat racers took the start line. For anybody who hasn't been to an OCR at Carolina Adventure World, it is one of the most underrated and unexpected terrains for a course in the Southeast.

Race Recap: Michigan Mud Factor

By |July 22nd, 2014|

When I first identified this event, I became interested to see what it was all about. I had reviewed the information on a few examples of this event in other areas, so I thought I would give it a run. I was very happy that I entered this event, as it turned out to be a quality outing.
