We piled into the car and headed a short drive to 5K Foam Fest in Belleville Ontario at Zwicks Centennial Park. It is conveniently located on the shores of Lake Ontario and offered some great views and parkland settings.

The race coordinators kept racers updated right up to the day of the event and reminded everyone of the shuttle services that was transporting racers from an off-site parking location $10.00 to the main park.  The buses were frequent and there were no line-ups to get on or off.

Once on site, it was easy to navigate around the village with great signage and quick registration.  We maybe had six people ahead of us and it was quick and easy to register by your last name to get your racing bib.  Then we moved onto the Gear Drop where you donated $5.00 towards the Salvation Army.  Each station was well manned and there were no lineups at all to drop off or pick up your bags during the event.

The main village was filled with musical energy and could be heard from all vantage points along the looping out and back course.

5K Foam Fest Details…

This is a family-friendly, un-timed event.

Costumes are encouraged and there were only a few bottle necks along the course for obstacles such as the mini walls and cargo climbs.  This is an excellent course for those starting out or wanting to try something outside of their comfort zone.

As racers headed out along the well-marked course, they could be seen looping through the woods and along the waterfront as the obstacles were dotted throughout the park.  The infamous looming slides kept everyone on edge as you wove your way back and forth anticipating the final descent down the massive inclines.

Some of the other obstacles were the lily pads that had racers jumping into the warm Lake Ontario water and the great mud crawl with the perfect amount of grit, mud, and water to saturate the participant from head to toe. There were slippery slides along most inclines and small walls to tackles with spider webs, over/under's and bouncy structures.  Good clean fun for all ages.

As you rounded the final bend spectators cheered racers on as you approached the finish line and your well-received beach towel and finishers medal.  Zoomphoto.ca was on site so that they could capture a great group shot that is posted free for all racers to download.

Food was available on site to purchase and showers with divided change rooms were available for all racers to hose off before heading home. This was a great location and was well organized from our point of view.

Gear Guide…

Garmin 220 watch, IceBug Zeal2 trail shoes, Road ID, and QALO ring.

Recommendations:

More water on the slides as we got stuck near the bottom
