SPARTA, GREECE (March 5, 2018) – Following an epic race weekend in 2017, modern Spartan athletes will journey back to the ancient ruins, rivers and mountains of the legendary city of Sparta when the world’s largest obstacle race and endurance brand hosts the inaugural invite-only Trifecta World Championship, November 2-4, 2018. Offering a $20,000 prize purse, the weekend’s series of events will test the strength and endurance of athletes from around the globe with the three signature races of Spartan’s coveted Trifecta.

“Seeing Spartans from around the world race across the sacred city of Sparta last year was a transformational experience,” said Spartan Founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “Paired with the overwhelmingly positive response from our racers and the support of the municipality, we knew we had to go back with an even bigger challenge this year, and thus, the Trifecta World Championship was born.”

Paying homage to King Leonidas and the Sparta 300, the Spartan events will span the ancient and modern lands over the course of three days of competition. Only 3,000 spots are available for the weekend, and 2017 Trifecta Tribe members will have until April 9 to register, before anticipating 2018 Trifecta finishers can enter.

2017’s Sparta event saw athletes from 40 countries racing on the historic trails of the city. Competitor’s conquered signature Spartan obstacles including the Spear Throw, Fire Jump and Monkey Bars in addition to challenges that harkened back to ancient times.

“Our community and municipality were so happy with success of Spartan’s inaugural event in Sparta and it’s an honor to welcome the athletes and families from around the world back for what promises to be another exciting year,” said Mayor of Sparta Mr. Evangelos Valiotis. “We look forward to the energy and passion the modern-day Spartan community brings to our city and to sharing the unique experience of the birthplace of the ancient Spartans along the Evrotas River.”
