Course Description:

The Merrell Down & Dirty Obstacle Race presented by Subaru is an obstacle-climbing, trail-blasting race that will push you to your limits. Two courses, 20+ obstacles, one true challenge.

5K Course Description
Mile 1 - Runners exit the main event site and head down a dirt/gravel trail that follows the perimeter of the Georgia International Horse Park. The trail is wide and shaded by large trees and gives runners a good jump start on the course.
Mile 2 - The trail emerges from the trees as runners pass the barns and stables of the horse park. After crossing the road, the course picks up one of the many riding trails into the woods. As runners exit the woods they may catch a glimpse of the Olympic Rings!
Mile 3 - After crossing the road again the course follows the Olympic mountain biking course. The rocky terrain is a bit tricky but only lasts a short distance. Runners cross under the roadway through a tunnel before making their way back towards the main event site for a water crossing through the river and a refreshing MUD crawl!

10K Course Description
Mile 1 - Runners exit the main event site and head down a dirt/gravel trail that follows the perimeter of the Georgia International Horse Park. The trail is wide and shaded by large trees and gives runners a good jump start on the course.
Mile 2 - The trail emerges from the trees as runners pass the barns and stables of the horse park. After crossing the road the course picks up one of the many riding trails into the woods. The trail through the woods narrows and provides runners with the only hills of the course. Not too far into the wood the 5K course takes an early exit as the 10K continues through the trees.
Mile 3 - Runners continue through the rolling hills and open fields as they pass old horse jumping facilities built for the 1996 Olympic Games. The trail continues to loop through open fields and past an old cemetery.
Mile 4 - Just past the Olympic Rings the 10K course meets back up with the 5K course. Runners cross the road again as the course follows the Olympic mountain biking course. The rocky terrain is a bit tricky but only lasts a short distance. Runners cross under the roadway through a tunnel before heading into the Steeplechase Field.
Mile 5 - The trail follows the perimeter of the Steeplechase Field and ducks into the woods and mountain bike trails.
Mile 6 - The trail exits the woods and turns to dirt/gravel as it passes a miniature railroad station back towards the main event site, a quick dip in the river and refreshing mud crawl!

Aid Stations:

Other:

The Merrell Down & Dirty National Mud and Obstacle Series presented by Subaru is proud to support Operation Gratitude! Operation Gratitude sends care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation addressed to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and on Naval ships at sea!

Additionally, we have a race series for kids- The Adventure Kids series presented by Paul Mitchell! This fun filled race for children ages 4 through 13 features running, obstacles just their size, and a trip through the biggest mud pit they have ever seen! All racers receive an Adventure Kids cotton T-Shirt, race bib and finisher medal!

Racers must be a minimum of 13 years old to participate in the 5K and 14 years old to participate in the 10K.

The Merrell Barefoot Division specially times racers competing in Merrell Barefoot shoes, Vibram Five Fingers, or those who choose to run purely barefoot. The off-road nature of the trails can feature roots, rocks and sections of gravel. If you’re not properly trained, these natural hazards may lead to cuts, scrapes and maybe blisters. You’ll need to meet the below qualifications to be able to race purely barefoot:
Racers must have experience running barefoot on off-road trails
Racers must have 90 days of barefoot training under their belts

There will be rinse off stations and changing tents for all athletes to use after the race with Paul Mitchell shampoo to clean you up!

There is a Bag Check where you can drop off your gear prior to the event. Tear off the “Bag Claim Check” tab from your racer bib and affix to your bag with a safety pin. Event staff will sort your bag according to your racer number, and you can claim your belongings later with your bib number. While the bag check area is secure and we make every effort to protect your belongings, MESP, Inc. and the Merrell Down & Dirty National Mud and Obstacle Series presented by Subaru is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please leave valuables at home!

There will be a disposable, orange strip timing chip included in your packet, attached to your race bib. You will need to attach this timing chip to your shoe in order to receive a time for the race.

Sorry! Dogs are not allowed to participate in the events.

The event does not include swimming. Any water crossings are accessible on foot and may come up to about your waist.

You will not be forced to participate in anything you do not feel comfortable with. We encourage all participants to compete at their comfort level. There will be plenty of volunteers on the obstacles there to encourage you or help you to the next step. If you choose to go around an obstacle, you will not be able to participate in the award ceremony.

There is no time limit to finish the course. Athletes are permitted to walk the course.

Official teams of 10 or more people racing in the 5k or 10k will earn $5 off each of their registrations. If you are part of a team of 10 or more, you will automatically receive your refund AFTER completion of the event.
