Course Description:

The Steamboat Mad Mud Run is back for 2013 with a vengeance. In this 5K race, we promise you a longer race with more elevation, challenging obstacles, and lots more mud! Racers will begin at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area and hill climb to the first drop of the Christy Peak Express lift. From there, while running through towering aspens, racers will hit muddy obstacle after muddy obstacle until finally starting to descent back down to the finish line in Gondola Square. Finished participants can stay and enjoy themselves with food and beverages, live music, games, and other activities (general public will be invited as well).
Obstacles include; Hill Climb, Sprint Race, Tire Course, Climbing Wall, Balance Beam, Mud Pit, Kegs Jumps, Bungee Obstacles, Tunnel Crawl, Fire Jump (more to come; subject to change)

Aid Stations:

Each obstacle will have an Steamboat employee overlooking it for safety and Steamboat Bike Patrol will be roving the course throughout the day. There will also be two water/Power Ade stations along the course.

Spectators:

This event is totally free for spectators. While many obstacles can't be seen from the base of the Steamboat Ski Area, there will be games, activities, food and beverages going on throughout the day.

Parking:

There will be free open parking in the Knoll Lots at the Steamboat Ski Area all weekend long.

Post Party:

After-party at Gondola Square. Music from the new Steamboat Stage during and after the racing Food and Beverages available on the Bear River Terrace and from the Umbrella Bar Sponsor booth area.

Other:

Currently you must be 16 years old to compete and must have a parent’s signature on our release waiver if under the age of 18.

We will have lockers available for use inside the Bear River Bar and Grill. Please remember we are not responsible for lost or stolen personal belongings so leave all your valuables in your car or residence. At the end of the race there will be a washing area. Could be snow guns, could be a house, or could be the hunky firemen of the Steamboat Springs Fire Department. You’ll have to finish to see!

We are teaming up with Grand Futures Prevention Coalition this year. A portion of your race entry will go directly to Grand Futures Prevention Coalition, the only dedicated source of substance abuse prevention activities in Grand, Routt and Moffat Counties. Grad Futures Prevention Coalition provides information useful in understanding the problem of substance abuse in our region and how youth, families and communities can work together to create supportive, healthy communities where individuals make positive lifestyle choices.

Team:

Everyone will have a timing chip during the event and we will be recording each person’s individual time. If you know you want to run with a certain person or people, register for the same time heat and make a note of it when you’re registering on EventBrite.
