Course Description & Tips

Please note that the course is subject to change.

In the Mighty Mud Dash course you can expect to tackle 5 miles of tough obstacle racing hitting anywhere from 20-24 obstacles. You can watch the video to see the obstacles in action or view a list of obstacles below (Please note obstacles are subject to change if deemed necessary by the race directors).

    1. Tires – A big field of rubber tires where you must carefully walk over each of them without tripping. Tougher than it looks if you want to go fast!
    2. Tube Tunnels – Four to five corrugated pipes laid at slight upward angle lead into a mud pit. The tubes will be filled with muddy water as you crawl through.
    3. Barbed Wire Bear Crawls – How low can you go? Crawl under this complexity of barbed wire laying nearly 2 feet above the ground.
    4. Dark Knight – Multiple trenches cut 3ft wide and 20 ft long, with each trench being filled half way with water and covered by 4X8 sheets of plywood. Are you afraid of the dark?
    5. Lumber Jacked – Make your way through one of several mud pits, each laced with multiple telephone poles you must go under or over as you see fit.
    6. Life’s a Ditch – Run through 20 yards of trenches filled with 3ft of water. Try not to slip as you make your way in – and out – of this obstacle.
    7. Mud Moguls – A stretch of 5-6 mounds of dirt with 2-3ft of water in between each mound. Due to the water, mud, and steep angle of the slippery mounds, it becomes extremely difficult to get up and over them by yourself alone.
    8. Rope to Rope – Climb on horizontally placed ropes over a 14-foot-wide mud pit that is 4ft deep. The real challenge here is finding the most efficient way to utilize all your limbs to climb cleanly across.
    9. Monkey Bars – One of our most difficult obstacles: an inclined ladder bridge built on a truss system 10 feet above a mud pit. Make sure you have gloves or grippy hands if you want to make it through this one!
    10. Over, Under – This one’s full of ups and downs. Leap over and under large hurdles with barbed wire on them – as high as 3-4 feet and as low as 2 feet.
    11. Rope Swing – Swing across one of three mud pits where timing is everything. Stay high enough on the rope so that you don’t hit the muddy water pit below, and then land perfectly so you don’t fall backwards and land in the muddy water pit – again.
    12. Mud Mountain -Climb 20 ft to reach the top of this slippery mountain, then slide down the other side into a large pool of mud. Ropes will be attached to the mountain to help you climb up.
    13. Wally World – Climb over one of several 10-ft-tall wooden walls. Be sure to watch your step while landing!
    14. Traverse Wall – Rock climbing with a twist: Climb your way horizontally across a big wooden wall as you keep your grip on the array of small wooden squares attached to it.
    15. Summit – A gargantuan quarter-pipe you must run and climb to reach the peak. Volunteers, ropes, and ledges will be there to help you up.
    16. Arctic Freeze – On the opposite side of the Summit is a large waterside where you will slide down into an 8-ft-deep, 9-feet-wide pit of ice water chilled with 28,000 lbs. of ice. Lifeguards will be available to help you out as you swim to the other side.
    17. Cargo Crawl – Go up, across, and then down our massive cargo net. It will be extremely difficult to gain footing as you struggle to make your way across the loose nets.
    18. Gopher Holes – Stay low, really low, as you make your way through this obstacle with barbed wire 2 feet above and muddy water directly below.
    19. Fenced In – Conquer 3ft-deep trenches that have fence panels laid over the top. Each trench will be adequately filled with water. It is easier for the participant to enter in backwards and pull themselves out.
    20. Mighty Wall – The final obstacle is a big 14ft-tall wall. Use whatever stamina you have left to make it up and below a series of muddy, slippery steps. Grab a hold – and hold on tight!
    21. Mystery Obstacles – These can be placed anywhere in the course.
