High Rock Challenge obstacle races, mud run, and OCR information, distance, cost, dates, calendar, discounts, obstacles, reviews, and more
The High Rock Challenge Adventure Race is held in memory of NYPD Officer John Kelly. Two-member teams must run together at all times and compete in mystery mystery events, which are located throughout the approximately 10-K (and no longer than 13-K) course. Mystery events are cleverly designed and encourage teamwork as well as mental and physical acumen. Events are not revealed until race day when you’re on the course. The HRC was begun in 2001 when the New York Adventure Racing Association (NYARA) partnered with the Greenbelt Conservancy and New York City Parks to present the Greenbelt’s inaugural trail-running event. Although the first race exceeded our expectations and attracted over 100 runners, the 2012 race had 1400 registered runners and was sold out well in advance of race day. Proceeds from the High Rock Challenge help support Greenbelt trail maintenance and environmental education programs.
