Best Mud Run!!!

Feb 26, 2015 by Faye Simon

Great obstacles. Nice medal that doubles as bottle opener. Free beer at the finish for adults. Free parking....no shuttle bus needed!!!!!! Nice place to change!!! Shower not hose. Obstacles designed by a marine. Supports to great causes. All mud runners should run this race. Great for all levels. Fun for newbies. Challenge for all, especially those who run and do ALL obstacles.

Still the Best Race Ever

Jun 10, 2014 by Dan

PARKING = A
Free parking and you get to park 25 feet from the event. It doesn’t get much better than this.

FESTIVAL = D
It’s small. They had a band that played part time. There was food and a few vendors. Nothing free, no activities. You didn’t want to hang around at the festival.

BAG CHECK = B
Bag check was free and someone was at the station but there was no security or verification.

STARTING LINE = D
There was no archway, just a flag that said START. The DJ was weak. He barely spoke. There was nothing to get you hyped up about.

COURSE LAYOUT = C
The terrain was awesome. Woods, pavement, water, hills, mud, grass – this had it all. They offered 3 mile and 5 mile this year. The movement of 1 obstacle and elimination of 2 others left a big gap where I didn’t see any obstacles.

OBSTACLES = A
This is what makes this race the greatest. Out of 17 mud races, this race had the best obstacles! They were fun, challenging, and unique – and there were lots of them (over 20)! The obstacle mix up was good (water cross then a mud slide climb). You were never bored and mainly focused on obstacles. There was no backlog as there were multiple copies of the same obstacle (instead of having 1 wall with a backlog, they had 3 walls next to each other to prevent backlog). The jump is back for 2014 (although it’s a mini-jump) and an extra wall was added.

Best Obstacle = Wired Lake Crossing
Worst Obstacle = Water Buoys

WATER STATIONS = B
The water stations were greatly improved. There was about one every mile and one near the end to help you finish strong. Water only still, no food.

FINISH LINE = F
There is a final wall but the finish line is a flag that says FINISH. There’s no crowd to cheer you, no big banner or timer. You are greeted with a medal and food/water.

SHOWERING/CHANGING = B
They had showers and changing rooms. The backlog wasn’t bad (maybe 5-10 minutes). The showers were the best showers at any race. They were outdoor showers (no privacy) and not just a hose.

SWAG = B
You got a tshirt and a medal. If you plan to do this race more than once, you will always get the same tshirt and medal as they never change it.

CONCLUSION:
Still the best race that I have ever done (out of 17 races). It beats out the Tough Mudder, Spartans, Warrior Dashes, Rebel Races, etc. Don’t be scared away by my scoring of D’s and F’s in this review as the actual course and obstacles are what truly make a race (and this one had the best ones ever). They’ve made improvements from the previous years but it seems like 2 steps forward, 1 step back (that’s still 1 step forward overall). The pricing is pretty cheap for this race (and you could get a Groupon or other deal) and they usually run it twice a year. If you love mud races, you NEED to do this race!

The Best Race Ever!

Event Name: 2013-08-17 Englishtown New Jersey Rock Solid Mud Run 2013

Keep in mind, I have done over 16 mud races and know what to expect at a race.

COURSE LAYOUT = A
The terrain was awesome. Woods, pavement, water, hills, mud, grass – this had it all. Obstacle spacing was perfect. This was a 5 mile course but it didn’t feel like it.

Best Obstacle = Upsidedown wire cross
Worst Obstacle = Tunnels

WATER STATIONS = D
They was 1 water station that you hit up twice in 5 miles. Water only, no food. I didn’t need it since more than half the race is in the shade but others might have needed water every mile.

FINISH LINE = F
There is a final wall but the finish line is a flag that says FINISH. There’s no crowd to cheer you, no big banner or timer. You are greeted with a medal and food/water.
