World OCR Announces Safe Sport Committee

World OCR, the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO),  (formerly known as the IORF and other acronyms) has set up a new committee to ensure a safe sport for all athletes with the creation of Safe Sport Committee. The World OCR recently voted to form the committee and require the policies adopted by all national member federation and their members. The full press release below.

 


World OCR, the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO), announced today the formation of a Safe Sport Committee and appointment of Chair Dr. Yetsa A. Tuakli-Wosornu.

With the recent exposure of sexual abuse scandals at the highest level across multiple countries and sports, World OCR has taken an important step in the prevention of sexual harassment and abuse in obstacle sports by creating a standalone Safe Sport Committee. The World OCR Central Board (the federations highest executive branch) voted unanimously to form the committee and will require the policies are adopted by all national member federations and their members.

The Safe Sport Committee will coordinate its functions with existing committees and commissions to ensure compliance across all areas of obstacle sports.

Dr. Tuakli-Wosornu (GHA) is a sports and wellness expert and an athlete who is interested in helping people achieve high performance at all stages of life through holistic mind-body development. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, she is an interventional spine Physiatrist, a long jumper (representing Ghana until 2016), and the International Paralympic Committee’s inaugural Welfare Officer. Dr. Tualki-Wosornu stated that

It is clear from recent news and the Safe Sport International conference that eliminating violence in sport and creating a safe environment for athletes is crucial for the development of healthy sport. World OCR is taking the necessary steps to be a leader in Safe Sport globally.”

World OCR President, Mr. Ian Adamson (AUS) who attended the inaugural Safe Sport International Conference in Madrid on April 6-7th said that “The primary goal of the Safe Sport Committee is to establish the structure and systems that ensure a culture of zero tolerance for sexual harassment and abuse at every level of obstacle sports in every country.”
