Course Description:

The Race for Recovery makes the most out of existing dogsled trails. What is a smooth ride with a couple of feet of snow becomes a boggy lumpy muddy trail in springtime. Major obstacles include fording Campbell creek and the additional added obstacles of mud pits, vertical walls and crawl ""zones.""

Aid Stations:

There will be two water stations, one midway along the course and the other in the start/finish area. EMTs will be available to respond on foot or by bike. The course follows a path through a part of the park that is rarely visited in spring/summer but is accessible from several major roadways in an emergency situation. We have also worked with the department of natural resources and the Anchorage based bear experts to minimize the probability of a bear encounter during the event. HOWEVER-this is bear country and there are frequent sightings of both black and brown bears in the course area. Please exercise caution.

Awards:

Our awards are more tongue in cheek than actual prizes. We do recognize the fastest adult male and adult female in the competition.

Spectators:

Spectators are free, also free hotdogs!

Parking:

Carpooling is a good idea, however there is plenty of parking in the Municipal buildings located east (across Elmore Road) from the ball fields. Most of the ballfield parking is restricted to vendors and VIPs so it's a good idea just to aim for the MOA Planning Building and cross over the bridge to the ballfields on foot.

Post Party:

There will be music and the joy of cheering on the exhausted final finishers. And---Free Hotdogs!

Other:

The proceeds from this race benefit Anchorage Community Mental Health Services.
This year, the race funds will be designated to the construction of a new playground for our Little Tykes program. Little Tykes is a day therapy program for children ages 3-6 who are struggling in preschool/daycare due to behavioral issues that are usually caused by trauma histories or related issues.

Team:

You are welcome to race, or register as a team. There is no special prizes for teams and if the start time that your team picked is full- you will have to register and run in a later heat.
