Race Start Time:
The Romp 5K Run/Walk check-in and registration opens at 8:00 am and the race begins at 9:00 am.
The Romp Mud Run registration opens at 8:00 am. Racers are asked to arrive 60 minutes before your wave starts. This allows you to park, shuttle to the check-in site, check-in, and do a pre-race warm up with Hoosier CrossFit owner, Shaun Tieman.
The Mud Run waves begin at 9:30am and run until the last wave at 2:00pm. Waves are roughly 20, 30 or 40 minutes apart throughout the day. Waves are no more than 70 people with most closer to 40 people.
The 9:30am and 11:00am waves are 'competitive' waves. This means you have done other mud runs and obstacle courses and are comfortable with most obstacles. You want to crank up the pace and see what you're made of, challenging yourself, competing with other racers, and going for a spot on the podium.
The 10:30am and 12:20pm waves are 'non-competitive' waves. This means you may want to take your time because you are running with people of varying skill levels or you are participating mainly to socialize with friends. You'll be taking on the course at your own pace and we'll be providing extra time before the next wave begins. This division is all about having fun and taking it slow.
All other waves are 'general' waves. Most people will fall in a 'general' wave. These waves are for everyone, whether or not you've done other mud runs and obstacle races before. You will take on each obstacle as it comes, but challenge yourself to do your best and complete the course successfully. You may not sprint through the course, but you'll try your best to get through it in a time you'll be proud of. Again, most people will want to sign-up for a 'general' wave.

The course for the Mud Run is about 2.5 miles long and includes roughly a dozen obstacles. The Mud Run goes through a natural area, therefore it will be natural, not man made, mud pits and ravines that you will be trudging through. It is hilly. There are gravel, mud, grass and paved paths that you will go on. There will be water obstacles in Lake Lemon (no higher than your waist) and wet obstacles such as a dumpster to wade through and a water slide. Other obstacles include an army crawl on the beach, a tire run/carry, wooden a-frames to climb over, a large wooden wall to get over, a rope pull up/down a ravine, a muddy tunnel to crawl through, and others. It is challenging, but easy enough for a novice to complete the course with success. All obstacles can be skipped if they are too difficult, but most people have been able to finish every obstacle.
For the Romp Mud Run, we urge you not to wear things you do not want to be ruined. Shoes will be ruined, and clothes can be stained. Please dress appropriately for the weather and temperature this time of year.
The 5K will also be hilly. It will take place on some grass, some trail (very little), some gravel and some pavement. It is a challenging 5K, but is not a trail run. There will be no need to climb. Anyone can participate in this as a walk or a run. The view on this course will be beautiful through the woods and hills of Southern Indiana out by Lake Lemon.
For both races, feel free to dress in costume to participate in the Halloween theme, although it is not at all required. Prizes will be given out for costumes.
We will have an aid station with paramedics on standby. There will be fruit & water at the finish line.
There are awards for each heat including male and female award winners, team category winners, and age range winners. You will receive gift cards to local establishments, a certificate, and a Romp race medal.
Prizes will go the winners mentioned above, but also to people for the best costume, most funds raised, etc.
Spectators are FREE!! There will be plenty to do for the spectators - we will have music, food trucks, and entertainment such as a bounce house, blow-up kid obstacle course, and cornhole.
Parking will be located near the IU Rowing Club site, located off South Shore Drive. There will be signs directing participants from IN-45 onto Tunnel Road then onto South Shore Drive. Please allow at least 20 minutes for parking and shuttling to the site. Shuttles start at 7:00 a.m. and run roughly every 15 minutes. We DO recommend carpooling as parking is very limited!
Food options will be available for purchase from local food trucks and vendors. Entertainment (music) and games for kids will be on site, as well.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington is hosting this third annual event, the Romp Mud Run & 5K, with the help of community partners. Funds raised will go the support the kids who need us most. After registering, race participants are invited to continue fundraising. Prizes will be awarded for the top fundraisers. Visit the fundraising link for more details. Whether you raise an extra $10 or $1000, the Club kids are grateful for your efforts! (NOTE: fundraising is optional). The race registration fee counts towards your fundraising total!
Online Registration closes at 11:59pm, Sunday, October 25 for both races. Day-of registration is available on site with cash or credit payments. Early registration is encouraged.
If you miss your wave, we can assign you a new one when you arrive.
You can participate in the Romp Mud Run more than once. Your first time will be the official race time. Each time thereafter is recreational. You must let the registration and check-in team know that you will be racing in another wave before your go through the course an additional time.
Take a dip in Lake Lemon to wash off the mud when you are done. There will be an area on site for private changing. There will also be a place to store a change of clothes while you’re racing.
On the top right of the registration site, you’ll see an option for volunteer sign-in. Volunteers have the option to race for free.
If there is no life threatening weather, like lightning or thunderstorms, then race proceeds as planned.
We love teams! Please sign-up and get 4 of your friends to join you to make a team of at least 5. Teams can be as large as you'd like them to be, but to count as a team it needs to be at least 5 people. Teams get a discount of $15! You can all sign-up individually, but the team captain will need to sign-up first. Then all the team members who sign-up following will need to know the name of the team captain, that person's email address and the team name.
Teams will also have additional categories that they can win awards and prizes for such as fastest team (combined times averaged), largest team, team with the most money fundraised, best costumed team, etc.
