Race Start Time:

Sat 10th Aug: 05:00 – 08:30: Registration and Bike Check I, 08:45 – 09:1: Mandatory Race Briefing, 9:30: Athletes to gather for start of Stage 1 Mass Start, 10:00: Challenge-X Stage 1 & 2 Dartmoor Run/MTB, Sun 11th Aug: 07:30 then every 30 mins: Safety Briefing for Endurance Course, 08:00 – 12:00: Challenge-X Stage 3 Endurance Course.

Athletes sent in groups of 5 every 2 mins
You can then check your mountain bike into transition before the race begins. Once it has been checked into transition you will not be able to take it out until after Stage 1, so make sure everything you need for the MTB stage, such as helmets, cycle shoes are with your bike.

The mandatory adventure race briefing will take place with safety information regarding the course and any last minute changes that may have taken place. Please attend the briefing as there will be information given out which is relevant to you!

After the adventure race briefing you will then have to get yourself ready to start the race, and make your way to the start line in time for the beginning of the trail run.

Course Description:

Trail run followed by MTB
Stage 1 of the Challenge-X adventure race 2013 will start from, the land surrounding Okehampton Artillery Camp, Dartmoor
4 hour cut off from start of race time for 100km athletes and 2 hour cut off from start time for 50km athletes.
It is your responsibility to be in place for the start of the race which will start at 10:00 for both 100km and 50km, on Saturday, as we won’t wait for you!
It will be a Mass start

Stage 1 will be the trail run on Dartmoor, following a marked course with flags
There will be Feed Stations at various points along the route providing hydration and nutrition
Athletes will need to carry mobile phones with them whilst on the trail run and MTB course, but these will be in sealed bags, and can only be used in an emergency.
Marshals will also be on the course but it is your responsibility to know the course
You will need to follow the course back to Okehampton where you will then enter transition and collect your mountain bikes and proceed onto Stage 2

Stage 2 will start from Okehampton
10 hour cut off from start of adventure race time for 100km athletes and 5 hour cut off from start time for 50km athletes.
There will be Feed Stations at various points along the route providing hydration and nutrition
Marshalls will also be on the course but it is your responsibility to know the course
You will follow the course till the finish back at Okehampton where you will have access to refreshments should you need it.
You will then need to make your way to Bicton college from Okehampton. Once at Bicton you will then need to put your tent up, there will be showers waiting for you and food available to purchase.
Your start times for the Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course will be available.

Sunday 11th August 2013 – 15km Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course
Breakfast will be available to purchase at Bicton College near Woodbury Common, Devon.
Following breakfast you will need to ensure you are attend one of the safety briefings before you are able to take you place at your start time for the Royal Marines Endurance Course.

Stage 3 of the Challenge-X adventure race will start from Bicton College
4 hour cut off time
All athletes will be responsible for getting themselves up and to the start line in good time as we won’t wait for you!
All athletes must wear clothing which covers their arms/legs whilst on the endurance course, along with boots, with ankle support. There will be dark tunnels and you will get wet!
You will be set off in groups of 5 in 2 minute intervals. The fastest 20 athletes from the previous day will be sent off first, then following with the slowest groups
There will be Feed Stations at various points along the route providing hydration and nutrition
Marshals will also be on the endurance race course to assist with some of the obstacles, and for your safety
You will finish the endurance race course back at Bicton College where you will have access to showers and food
Awards ceremony and prize giving to follow
Any athletes who are still on any stage of the Challenge-X adventure race course (with exception on the Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course) after the cut off time will be removed for safety reasons. When on the Endurance Course all athletes will need to ensure that their arms and legs are covered and it is strongly advised that boots are worn rather than trainers. Athletes will be faced with small dark and in some cases water filled tunnels.
They will, however, be allowed to carry on for the final stages but will not be eligible for a finishers T-shirt, medal or prize money.
Relay Teams will be issued with one timing chip that must be passed from athlete to athlete at the completion of their stage.

How to claim
To claim these rewards you need to register with Virgin Money Giving. We will be contacting all entrants shortly inviting them to set up their fundraising page with Virgin Money Giving. We will contact you when you reach a recognised reward level. The prize draw works differently, your name will be entered automatically and we will not contact you unless you are the winner. The winner will be announced at the prize giving ceremony on Sunday 11th August.

Other:

There will be a food vendors onsite over the weekend. Any purchases from these will be at your own expense and are not included in the entry fee.

"Your mission is to complete a 100km or 50km three stage 2013 adventure race and charity challenge over Dartmoor and the Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course in Devon.
You can enter as a solo athlete or in a relay team of 2 or 3 people.
Stage 1. 20km or 10km Dartmoor trail run
Stage 2. 65km or 25km MTB over Dartmoor
Stage 3. 15km Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course

At registration you will need to go to the appropriate desk (desks will be in race number order 1-200, 201-400 etc.). You will then need to produce your photo ID. You will then be given your race number, ID wrist band and timing chip.

Team:

Entering a 3 person relay each member of the relay team will take part in one of the 3 stages. If entering a 2 person relay 1 member of the team will need to complete 2 of the stages of race, the 2nd member will only complete 1 stage.

Camping Info:

All Challenge-X athletes will be offered camping onsite at Bicton College on Friday and Saturday night. This must be booked and paid for in advance so we can organise the camping pitches. Pitches are priced at £15 each. 1 tent/campervan = 1 pitch.

To help us plan the camping area and ensure it remains safe, please indicate if you would like to camp on the Challenge-X race entry form. When you arrive to register you will be issued with a permit for your tent/campervan. This needs to be displayed during your stay. All tents/campervans MUST be booked in advance.

If you would prefer not to camp please feel free to arrange your own accommodation off-site. You will be responsible for arranging travel to and from the 2013 adventure race locations.

If you have already entered and can’t remember if you have opted to camp, then please refer to your original confirmation email. Your booking selections will be contained in this email (so don’t delete it!).

If you didn’t book a camping pitch when you registered, you can amend this by logging back into your registration form where you can select this option.
