Course Description:
Tackle insane terrains – from sand to mud to lake to swamp! Combining natural and man-made obstacles, the Barber Beast on the Bay obstacle course has one of the best locations available -- the beach!
Some of the obstacles to expect this year include; armageddon, water wall, crawl wall, phragmites, double duty pipe roll, 40-ft wall, inverted monkey bars, walk the plank, big pipes, hit the deck, trail test, charlotte’s revenge, trench warfare, teeter totter, Tail of the beast, teeth of the beast, triangles of terror, one bell of an obstacle, tire trap, over under, angle wrangle, weight a minute, rings of fire, iron curtain, quarter pipe, swing or get soaked, stairway to heaven, moguls and Waldameer Hill among others.
While our venue at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA is scenic, the Barber Beast is definitely no walk in the park. You will take on 10 miles of sand, water, and trails – it’s the nature of the Beast! Join the 1500+ crazy enough to run, jump, climb and crawl across more than 30 obstacles on the shores of Lake Erie Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Aid Stations:
Hydration, nutrition and first-aid stations will be scattered periodically throughout the course. Fruit, water and food will be provided at the finish line.
Awards:
Top three male and female finishers of the elite race will be awarded during a ceremony after the race.
Spectators:
Gather up your friends and family in the trusty van to cheer you and the team on! It is free to come, park, take the shuttle, and party! We offer a shuttle for participants and spectators down and back from Waldameer to Beach 11 with many stops along the way. If your cheer squad wants an opportunity to earn money for their hard earned signs and well-rehearsed chants, look into getting them involved as a Cheer Zone.
Parking:
Both participants and spectators are welcome to park at Waldameer’s Water World parking lot off of Peninsula Drive. Parking is also available across Peninsula Drive in the Waldameer overflow lot and the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. Please do not leave valuables in your car.
Post Party:
There are post-race festivities including music, dancing, food trucks and ice-cold beer
Other:
What sets this obstacle course race even more apart from the rest? When you tackle obstacles during the Beast, you’ll also be helping children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities and behavioral health challenges at the Barber National Institute who take on their own obstacles on a daily basis, as the event supports the non-profit and its more than 6,300 individuals.
Team:
During registration, you can either start a team or join one. Contact the gang to get it together. You can register at separate times or all at once and get it all set. You pick!
Kids Race:
The minimum age to participate is 16 years old by the day of the event. Participants ages 16 & 17 can participate with signed permission from parent/guardian.
