Course Description:
Rugged Maniac is returning for our fourth annual New York City event and, YES, there will be MUD! We're also bringing a new high-flow rinse-off system along with some new surprises that'll make this one wild and rugged day of fun!
Each Rugged Maniac features at least twenty obstacles constructed by an experienced crew of licensed contractors. These aren’t the pop-up kiddie obstacles you’ll see at other races. You’ll climb over walls up to 12’ high, crawl through mud under barbed wire, slide down a 50’ water slide, jump over fire and face many other challenges all while running through a combination of forests, fields, motocross tracks and ski slopes!
Aid Stations:
We provide water at one station halfway through the course and again at the finish line. We don't provide water to spectators or in the festival area generally. Water and other beverages will be available for purchase from vendors, but you can also bring in your own non-alcoholic beverages (no glass bottles).
Awards:
Awards are available for:
- Top Overall Finisher
- Top 3 female finishers
- Top 3 male finishers
- Top racer over 55
- Top racer under 18
Spectators:
$10. A spectator ticket gives you access to the viewing areas on the course and the festival area, which features live music, beer, food, vendors and festival games!
Parking:
Parkng is free at the venue, but don't worry if you don't have a car! We'll have free shuttles (in the form of school buses) running from the Flatbush Ave - Brooklyn College 2/5 stop to the race. There will be a Rugged Maniac staff member coordinating the shuttles, which will be running continuously from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are utilizing the shuttle, please aim arrive at the Brooklyn College stop at least 2 hours before you are scheduled to run.
Post Party:
A mechanical bull, adult bounce houses and live music! Beer will be flowing from our friends at Harpoon Brewery so be sure to grab one while you listen to some of the area's coolest bands!
Other:
You won't get a private shower with hot water, but we'll have a public
hose-off station with nice cold water for you after you run. Our system
has been redesigned to accomodate our crowds, but with over 5,000
runners at each event, lines are unavoidable, especially if people
decide to clean their shoes, wash their hair and give their dog a bath
while others are waiting. Here's a tip: bring a gallon of water with you
and skip the rinse-off station. You'll look like a genius to everyone
else standing in line with mud in their eye!
ou are welcome to don any kind of footwear you want. However, you assume
the risk of any injuries that result from your decision to do so.
Rugged Races LLC does not guarantee that the course will be free of
sharp objects, including rocks, splinters, pinecones, glass, nails,
knives, swords, chainsaws or anything else whatsoever.
Water obstacles are no more than 4 feet deep
You're free to go around any obstacles you can't get over or don't want to do, but you won't be eligible to win based on time
Runners can choose whether to get timed or not! If you're in it to
win it or you want your name, age and finish time to be preserved for
eternity in the official results list, then select the timing option
during registration and you'll get your very own electronic timing chip
(yours to keep!) that'll record your time as you cross the finish
line. But don't worry, you don't have to be officially timed to know
your finish time. We'll have a large digital clock at the finish line
that'll be displaying the hour, minute and second as you cross.
Our timing system is pretty high-tech. We'll assign you a RFID timing
chip that you'll attach securely to your shoe. Our computers will then
record what time you cross the start and finish lines. Timing chips must
be attached to the runner's shoes to ensure times are accurately
recorded.
Barefoot running is allowed, but you assume the risk of any injuries
Dogs are allowed if they are kept leashed at all times
Racers must be at least 14 years old.
Please arrive at least 1.5 hours before your wave starts. This gives you
enough time to park, stretch, hydrate, check-in, etc. If you miss your
start time and the race is a sellout, you won't be able to run.
The 2:30 wave will feature a battle of the Finest vs the Bravest. We
invite Police Officers and Firefighters from all departments to form
teams of four to compete in this challenge. Team times will be based on
a team's slowest member - Leave No Man Behind! Firefighter teams will
wear red jerseys and Police Teams will wear blue jerseys, so there will
be no mistaking which deparment is the Most Rugged!
For the third year in a row, this event benefits Police Unity Tour, Chapter 37, which raises awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Museum. Chapter 37 is named in memory of the 37 Port Authority Police Officers who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
Team:
Teams are allowed, but team times are not recorded. All racers are timed individually
