Course Description:
This is the reason we started the Firebreather. To get to this event. The organizers have run adventure races for 7 years. We have hosted CrossFit events (The Garage Games) for five years and have been hosting various types of obstacle races since 2010.
The Destiny Run is all of this. 24 hours of racing through the land that you see above, Lake Ocoee in Ocoee TN. We will launch from the YMCA, and spend the entire day and night, running through the woods, navigating through difficult terrain moving yourself from station to station. EVERY station will have a challenge, every challenge will be scored (timed, or totaled in some fashion). Your total score will be an equal component of all challenges as well as your total time to complete (if you can complete) the course.
Every station will have a cutoff time. If you cannot keep yourself on track for cutoff, your race ends. This will be a large part in your decisions to either accomplish challenges, or skip them altogether when you arrive at the stations.
Criteria for signing up for this race:
Fit. Strong, with great endurance.
Mentally tough. You don’t crack under pressure.
A desire to do things that nobody you know would do.
A willingness to plunge into the unknown with confidence.
These are the aspects that will bring you success.
What might be useful, but is not necessary:
Don’t need to be an adventure racer, but you will need some basic “how to” on navigation, we’ll feed that training to you pre-race.
Don’t need to be a CrossFitter, or an Endurance Racer. Just need to be really fit in all things. If you are a runner, then work on getting stronger. If you are strong, then work on developing more endurance. If you are both… you will win.
You don’t need to know how to swim, but a fear of water will end your race quickly.
You will need a pack, we will have a laundry list of necessary equipment. You will have to show that you possess that equipment before you can race, and you might be randomly checked on the course at any point in time, for any of the necessary items. They will be put on a list here by July 1, 2013.
