The Big Muddy Challenge covers roughly two miles of muddy obstacles that you will climb, stomp and crawl over to reach the finish line. This is not officially a timed event although we do have a large digital clock at the start and finish line. The course is typically completed anywhere between 30 min to 75 min if you are strolling. There are no water depths over 18 inches and all obstacles have clear walk around paths identified.
The first aid tent will be located near the finish line but paramedics will be on standby in multiple locations across the course. There will be a water station at the half way point (mile one) and water and fruit will be available to all participants at the finish line.
The Big Muddy Challenge does not charge a fee for spectators. Spectators are not allowed on the race course but have unlimited access to the finisher festival area.
Parking varies by location. It will never exceed $5 - check event website for specific updates.
The finisher area will be a great place to reunite with family and friends to enjoy the festival.
The Big Muddy Challenge is the only mud run specifically designed for children ages 6 to 12 and their parents. This is very different than a kids fun run or dash which is forgotten about quickly and parents act as spectators. This is a great opportunity to celebrate family activity all for a good cause.
The Big Muddy Challenge supports the Rex Healthcare Foundation and Playworks of Durham.
The Big Muddy Challenge supports teams of all sizes. Upon registration just make sure to sign up under the same Team Captain and Team Name to ensure everyone is in the same starting wave. Rec teams are heavily encouraged to signup and run together!
