Course Description:

Rhode Island’s premiere 5k military style obstacle course race. With over 20 obstacles on a 5K course; Bold r Dash is designed to challenge the body and the mind.

Course Map:

/wp-content/uploads/course_maps/bold_r_dash/2012/BoldrDashCourse.jpg

Aid Stations:

We will have 2 just as we did last year. In fact if it is forecast to be extremely hot, we may even add a third. Hydration is incredibly important, and Camelbaks are allowed.

There will also be medical personnel on the course. Yawgoo Valley Search & Rescue will be there providing medical services.

Prizes:

There will be no prizes for the fastest time other than bragging rights.

Spectators:

$5.00 (Children under 12 years are FREE, must be accompanied by an adult) Last year our spectators asked for more access to the course. Well, we listened. This year we are preparing parts of the course for you to view the course and racers. Take photos, cheer on racers and enjoy the view. All spectators entering the spectator’s areas must sign a race waiver before entering. If you plan to be a spectator, you MUST present ID when signing the waiver. Parents and/or legal guardian’s of minor children must be present to sign minor participation waiver prior to admittance. No one under 16 allowed without adult.

Parking:

$5.00 per car. Yawgoo Valley Ski and Sport has limited parking facilities. To combat this we encourage carpooling – we have secured off-site parking at Carousel Industries, Route 2, Exeter, with busing provided to and from Yawgoo Valley. Each heat will be assigned a parking area. There is NO PARKING on Yawgoo Valley Road – area will be monitored and violators may be towed. Limited street parking is allowed on Mill Pond Road – DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS. Violators may be towed. The word of the day is Carpool!

Post Party:

Good food, cold beer, live music, more challenges, and many vendors are just some of the things to expect from the Bold r Dash After Party. The after party starts when the race starts. But, food and drinks won’t be available until 10:30 am. The food and drinks are not free. Racers of legal drinking age will get 1 (one) free adult beverage after completion of the course.

Other:

Open to anyone over 13 years of age. Racers under 18 years old can only register in the later heats ( 12:00 p.m. and 12:30pm) for safety reasons. You can form teams of 3, 4, or 5 members.

We Want You! To Help Us Help Local Organizations And Charities! How You Ask? You don’t have to be running in the race to join us each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Yawgoo Valley Ski Area to help build the obstacles. Racers and non-racers can get an inside look at what to expect on race day, and make some great friends along the way. Bold r Dash has the BEST volunteers! (please remember, Yawgoo Valley Ski and Sport is private property. You should not be on the property with out the permission of Yawgoo Valley Staff or members of the Bold r Dash team.) Race Day: We need people to help out at registration, bag check, and so much more on the day of the event. We can’t make an event this great without the help of wonderful volunteers, that can be you!

This year are major benefactor is Pathways Strategic Teaching Center, a division of the Trudeau Center. You can read more about Patways on our Sponsor Page. We are also benefiting SK Cares in South County, a local organization that benefits children in South Kingstown area schools.

You should arrive at the parking area at least 2 hours before your wave starts. This allows time for the bus to get you to the base area, gives you time to check in, and prepare yourself for the race.

Photo ID is required, and a good attitude. The type of footwear you choose is totally up to you. However, for the safety of everyone on the course NO CLEATS of any kind. Remember your shoes and clothing will get dirty, really dirty. Snug fitting athletic clothing that still allows you to move freely and complete all the obstacles is encouraged. A change of clothes and some towels is suggested. Some folks even bring a gallon of water to rinse off, unless of course you would like to bask in your muddy glory all day. Bug spray and sunscreen is also highly recommended.

There will be a table and signage indicating the registration, bag check and other areas to assist racers and their guests . You will receive your race day packet there.

There will be a back check available to all racers. However, we encourage you to leave it with a family member or friend that accompanied you to the race. The bag area is not 100% secure and we are not responsible for lost /stolen items.

Bold r Dash is about personal challenge, so we encourage all racers to at least attempt each obstacle. If you find that still cannot complete that obstacle, you will be given an alternate task by the race officials at the obstacle. There will be race officials/volunteers at most obstacles, most of those officials will be military personnel. The task they give you is entirely up to them, it probably won’t be easy.
