unorganized, unsafe, not like other 5K obstacle runs

Oct 29, 2012 by Lacey

This was my fourth 5K Obstacle Run.
Before the race: Initially, I was very excited of the prospect of zombies. The event's website stated that they were going to break the Guinness Records with the amount of zombies there. So, I was really psyched.
During/After the Race: There was no park or course map like other events, no one knew where to go (not even the staff), and we only encountered 12 zombies during the entire race! What a huge disappointment. The track wasn't really a track at all. There were many areas where it wasn't even a trail. It wasn't made for runners as there was many extremely rocky and hilly areas. To make matters a lot worse, after finishing one of the coolest obstacles, which was trying to cross a small, muddy, body of water on these rafts, there was a grassy, hay--covered patch to run through. Well, there were holes in the ground, and my foot got in them. I sprained my ankle really badly. I've never been injured in any other 5Ks or obstacle 5Ks. There was no staff at the obstacles or throughout the course to ensure runners were safe. I had to hobble to the finish line, further damaging my ankle.

This was my 1st mud run. It was fun even though it wasn't as organized as I thought it would be and their were some mean Zombie's out there. It was impossible in our group to get to the finish with any life lines. They were more like football linebackers blocking the path. could have sworn it seemed more like 10K..which would make more sense considering I finished in almost 1 1/2 hours. Most of the time we were walking in the forest wondering if we were lost. One time this big group of us split up because we couldn't agree on where the trail went. On the otherhand the mud pits had some great slimy mud, the fire pit was warm afterwards & I met some cool people in the forest hiking.

Worst Run Ever

Oct 28, 2012 by Very Upset Runner

I am a very experienced runner when it comes to adventure races, 5Ks, 10Ks, etc. I've done Tough Mudder twice, Warrior Dash, Diva Dash, and more. From start to finish, this is by far the worst run I have ever participated in. Before our wave even started, the only thing that was clear is that no one had any idea what was going on. Runners from earlier waves were running to the start line which they had confused with the finish line, as no one had told them which way to go. Our wave started late by a woman with an iPhone who just yelled, "3, 2, 1, Go!" Go where? That was unclear. The obstacles were very lame. We jumped over two walls and climbed up a few hay bales. After the obstacles, we were completely lost. Other runners were trying to point us in the right direction, but it was obvious that no one really knew the right direction. The course was quite hilly and rocky. It ended up being more of a hike than a run. I lost my footing quite a few times, and could see that it would have been quite easy to break or sprain an ankle or have an even worse injury. Thankfully, my friends and I came out unscathed. There were no first aid people anywhere on the course or at the finish. Toward the end of the race, the "zombies" were telling people which way to go, but they really didn't know either. I am positive that we ran over 3 miles just trying to get out of the woods. When we finally laid eyes on our car, we didn't even bother going to the finish line. We were just happy to get the hell away from this stupid race. There is no way I will ever do another run with these "organizers." I would be ecstatic to get my money and my wasted day back.

Dead 4 Life Race Critique

Oct 28, 2012 by Love

So... Race was extremely inefficiently run, major lack of obstacles, no one knew what to do or when to do it, hardly any zombies, and the times were not put up in a fast manner. Keep reading to view entire story.
Terrible planning! My friend and I ran the 9:30 am race (2nd heat) and it was 20mn behind schedule. We started the race with a huge lead then got lost after the first obstacle because of no signs or people pointing in the right direction (so loss of 1mn 15seconds). After going over a few more obstacles, which were easy, we came upon a field and a zombie pointed us in the wrong direction! So this makes us loose another 2.5mn which is crucial in a 5k race. So after finally getting on the right path we did not come across another obstical until the end of the race. It would have been better if more mud was on the course and lots more zombies.
At the finish I came in first and my buddy came in second but it was pointless because of lack of direction! It might have caused us to loose the entire race. Not sure because the times are not posted yet.
After race there was One free beer and a door price ticket. BUT they scheduled to draw the prizes at the very end of the races, two and a half hours after the last heat!

Horrible Experience! Poorly Planned!

Oct 27, 2012 by Darren

Upon arrival we checked in but no guidance was offered in reference to flags, etc. We proceeded to start line. There were a few obstacles in the beginning and a very few at the end THAT WAS IT!! We ended up getting lost even after a zombie pointed us the direction to go as they were unsure. We ended up running well over 5 miles which would have been fine if there were mud, zombies and obstacles actually there. The path was not marked at all and no staff was around to help. We were very disappointed and even the half price we paid was too much!

I would never do this race again. Lucky for me I paid 50% of the entry fee. The course was poorly marked. I think we ended up doing about 7 miles which wouldn't have been an issue had there been some obstacles. I think over all there were 5 obstacles, no staff on the course to help guide you in the right direction. One of my friends cut opened her hand and there was no first aid people to help. Don't waste your time or money.
