If you think East Texas is just flat land and pine trees think again. The MMMR, located in the middle of the woods, has plenty of elevation (for Texas, that is). Also, 90% of the trail is tilled sand. Imagine running in 10" deep brown sugar for most of the trail and that was what this was like.

....And that's my biggest complaint. I had to walk because my calves and ankle weren't ready for that instability. That's a issue I need to work on, but it made the race not fun.

What did make the race fun was having to wade chest-deep in cold water. Their water obstacles were recently bolstered by fresh rains, and were quite cool. I'm wading through a pond with tadpoles and pollywogs swimming in front of me. Love being in nature!

If you're within driving range of Longview, TX and want to do a small local race with interesting challenges, try the MMMR!
