Disappointed

Apr 20, 2016 by Steph

If you're looking for mud, that's about all they have. Advertised to have 20+ obstacles, I'd say that about 15 of them were muddy water pits. Two small walls to climb over, a couple nets to run under, and not much more. I'm still trying to figure out which runs I want to do each year and this is not one of them. I was able to complete this race in 25 minutes and it took about 2 hours to drive to the race location from my city. Not worth it. And the beer was one of the cheapest I've had post race. If you want a lower key intro race to get into mud runs this one isn't bad, if you're looking for a challenge, look somewhere else.

Mud run? No! More like dirty water run.

NO WALLS TO CLIMB. NO NETS TO CRAWL OVER.

Half the obstacles on the website were not added to the actual race.
Dont have to high of hopes with this one

Decent first mud rin

Based on online reviews for mud runs in general, I found the SMR to be pretty tame. It's nice that it was inexpensive. I registered early and found an online coupon, so it was $27 after insurance. I wouldn't want to pay much more. There's no shirt included, and the obstacles were minimal, mostly just some mud pits dug with some backhoes. So it ended up being mostly a trail run with a few mud pits thrown in. We had some people who didn't train at all and they were perfectly fine getting through the course in about 90 minutes. But again, a decent first experience to see if you like mud runs, especially if you can get registered for cheap.

Plenty of Mud

Sep 22, 2014 by Chris Q.

If you are looking for a mud run this is it! However, if you're looking for an obstacle course race - erm...this might not be the one for you.

The obstacles that I can recall are as follows:
-Climbing over small walls
-Climbing over a large haystack
-Crawling underneath nets
-Crawling underneath wires
-Climbing up and over a cargo net
-A slide-n-slide into a lake
-And lots and lots of mud pits/mud hills.

Overall, it was a pretty decent race. It was also timed (though I was completely unaware of this until the end).

Another thing to note is that the mud was SUPER THICK! Compared to other mud runs I have done, this was extremely thick. So if you are looking for a MUD RUN, this is definitely it.

I didn't give it a 5 star because I felt like it could have been a bit more...fun? There was a lot of potential. I also wished the festival grounds had a little bit more - but meh.

This was my first mud run, or any race for that matter, and it was great. Well organized, good amount of obstacles, wasn't overly challenging, good for first timers like my self. I really liked that it was timed so I have some idea where I stand. Got a beer headband and medal (although it was tiny, more like a key chain). Will for sure do it next again next year.

Well Organized and Fun!

My son and I have completed ten mud runs and NorCal Survivor is one of the best. There is an energetic DJ to send you off from the start. It is well organized, the volunteers are friendly, the course is well marked and the obstacles are well built. You get wet and muddy from the very first obstacle to the very last obstacle. There is a hydration station on the course and EMTs on ATVs roaming the course. The clean-up area is the best I’ve experienced with high pressure overhead showers. There are plenty of food vendors after the race and music.

I really like the opportunity to pre-purchase photos for a set price with a guarantee for four photos. We ended up with 30 photos of one of the people in our group.

We will be back next year for more fun and mud!
