Race Recap: Savage Race – Central Texas

A new month means a new race.  This month I decided to step out of my norm and try Savage Race for the first time. The race is every bit as savage as its name.  While the 5-mile distance itself is not the hardest or the furthest I’ve done, the race definitely was not easy. Savage Race served as an eye opener to my own flaws in my training for obstacle course races.

I have been known to write about Tough Mudders, in fact, that’s the race which introduced me to the wonderful world of OCRs.  After over a year of doing these, I have started to branch out, and based on what Green Beret Challenge Commando set as the bar, I am going to be aiming at more variety of races.

Race Recap: Houston Tough Mudder 2017 – Creekside Offroad

Another Mudder down, and I can honestly it was the best Tough Mudder event I have been to so far. While the Mudder Village may have been smaller than usual, every other aspect of the race is exactly what I would expect from an OCR.  The course itself was the best course I’ve run, and the spectator course as well was very efficiently done.

As I continue to do more obstacle course races, it’s very humbling to get to see them evolve, sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst.  While I can say the Central Texas Tough Mudder was one I thought improved and was better than it was the year before - I can honestly say I was shocked to see the Dallas course take the opposite effect from last year.
