Worst Mud Run, Ever...?
Where to start... worst mud run event, ever?
1. DISORGANIZED: signed up to be on a team/group with our friends and entered the team name upon registration. When looking at our confirmation, we were not assigned to the team. Emailed their support and they "added" us and resent confirmations so we could run with our friends, cool. Not. Showed up at the race and were confused as to why we had different colored race bibs from our friends/group. What do you know, we were not in the same group and everyone had to wait for a later time so we could run together - super annoying. Clear lack of organization and follow-thru.
2. PARKING GOUGE: have to pay $20 for parking in a dirt field to get into the race - this is no professional sporting event. Seems a bit ridiculous. Just build it into the race ticket cost.
3. BORING REPETITIVE OBSTACLES: We've done a couple other obstacle, mud, fun runs (Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, Fun Run, etc) - this had the least and most boring obstacles of any. Not what they advertise. No water slides, very little variety. It was like someone drove a backhoe in a 1.6 mile loop and just dug 6 holes, piled the dirt up on one side and then filled each hole with water. There were a couple cargo climbs inbetween to space out the same mud hole obstacles - but it was absolutely boring. And... not even a full course, you just go back through the same boring loop of obstacles twice to get your 3.2 mile race distance and value (#sarcasm - not a good value).
4. OBSTACLE SETUP ON HORNETS NEST: As we headed for another cargo climb at the end of the first lap, noticed people were seemingly swatting at flies, we jogged closer to the obstacle and suddenly were swarmed by not flies, but wasps or yellow jackets (ones that live & nest in the dirt/ground). The race path ran you right through their nesting site, 10' in front of the obstacle. My daughter got stung on her ear and 7 more were on her clothes and in her hair. As we tried running off the course and away from them while I'm swatting them out of her hair and off of her, I got stung 2x in the back of the head & neck. There were 2 EMT vans parked right there. They said, yeah a lot of people are getting stung so we're here incase anyone is allergic. While my daughter is crying and getting some ice (she's 10) another half dozen people run over to the EMT's to clear away from the nest as they too got stung and are freaking out. Finally, a member of our group goes out 40' before the obstacle to warn racers to go around b/c people are continuously getting stung. We're on the 12:30 wave - at least a dozen waves into the day and they didn't bother to send someone out to close the obstacle or direct people around it? They didn't happen to see the nest when setting this specific obastacle up the day(s) before? Absolutely horrible management and care for their racers well being. After she settled down, my daughter wanted to finish the race which I was proud of her for, but talk about a terrible experience.
5. WRONG YEAR, CHEAP MEDALS: To further insult their racers, they gave everyone medals for 2020 even though it's October, 2021. The medals are cheap & lightweight. The Mud Factor organization is clearly cheap based on the lack of effort and giving out medals for a different year from what we signed up and paid for. If you're going to do that - tell people up front and don't charge full price. I get it, you ordered a bunch for 2020 that didn't get used. But also saw on other reviews you didn't refund racers for 2020 b/c of items already purchased. So, why are 2021 racers still paying for your 2020 medals and not getting ones for the year we ran? It gives a strong feeling about the organizers priorities: how can they cut corners, costs and who cares about what the racers paid for or what our expectations might have been...
6. HOUR+ WAIT FOR SHOWERS: They had a single shower station and it was an hour long line after your race. Just what everyone wants to do after running a hot, muddy race - stand in the hot sun for an hour to clean off. People were so frustrated they were getting in their vehicles all muddy b/c they didn't want to wait in the line and couldn't enjoy the after festivities caked in mud.
Overall, zero stars from top to bottom. I enjoy the outdoors, mud runs, exercise and fun physical challenges. But the way they put their races together brings the enjoyable moments down to a minimum. You're left feeling as though you had more of a bad time than a good time. Every other race I've done has been pure fun and enjoyment of the challenges and entire event. I was really looking forward to the race and event as a whole his past weekend. But after this exprience, we will never do Mud Factor again. :/

Horrible and cheap mud run
It was a 1.5 mile run that they had you run twice. Very little mud and mostly sand the only real mud pit was towards the end. Not a pleasant run in the sand. Everyone I talked to had no complements about it. Parking was at a lady's home who was nice enough to offer runners her hose because their 'wash' station was barely functional. The medal for the finish is a cheap plastic one with the wrong year stamped on it. For the price (80 dollars "55 ticket +20 parking +5) I would not recommend it. Iv paid 30 dollars for way better runs.
The event they held in Anchorage 2021 was totally not worth it. At a 50$ price tag they also forced you to pay $20 just to park at the event (a public park, mind you) and then the 5k course was really a 2.5k course that you "had" to go through twice. The park has acres and acres of space and tens of trails, so this by itself was quite the let down. The obstacles were safe and consistent with what was advertised, but in the end very underwhelming, especially because you repeat them. Also worth mentioning is that the people working the slip-n-slide at the "end" did not understand that in order for you to be able to slide down it, there needs to be constant water flowing down, not a couple sprays of the hose every few minutes. I won't recommend their events to anyone.
They deprive you of water and humanity
Please have the decency to give out free water especially for children-they have an increased eisk for heat stroke and dehydration. Not everybody is prepared to bring cash with them. Consider the 20 dollar parking fee, 10 dollar spectator fee and the 50.dollars just to so the obstacle course. No human should take advantage of the wellbeing of another human especially a "fun" company. Be gracious to your neighboor and provide water at least.
Expensive, poorly organized and potentially dangerous
I attended the Tri-Cities, WA event in July 2021 and I have to say that as my first mud run, this was really disappointing. First off, it's EXPENSIVE. $65 per person, with $20 parking and $5 bag checks and very little included swag (bandanna and cheap temporary tattoo that falls off right away, and a cheap medal at the end that had the wrong year).
In terms of organization, I don't think they actually limit ticket sales to what the event location can handle. They ran out of parking and we had to wait while they figured that out, and the course was really crowded. This overcrowding on the course led to some very dangerous obstacles like a slip and slide where people were being encouraged to go down before the people at the bottom were safely out of the way. Another obstacle was a tall cargo net on a metal frame being sprayed down with water, making for another significant hazard. The first wave started WAY too late in the day (started at 11am, which meant it was already in the high 90s) and the mud was pretty sad since they didn't start wetting the course until around the time they started running. Also, the July timing for this event doesn't make sense given the potentially dangerously high summer temps in the area. There was only one water station on the course, and no first aid for injuries other than an onsite ambulance halfway through the course. Shockingly poor planning, I'll be avoiding these guys in the future.
Fun Event
Attended Mud Factor in Escondido with my family and we all had a really good time. Plenty of mud, obstacles were not intimidating and the overall it seemed very organized. The MC was funny and very interactive, he had us all dancing and he kept the energy going all day. It was my families first mud run so we can't really compare it to others but all in all we had a great time.
Stay away from Mud Factor
This race has no interest and is poorly organized. For the price of admission you basically get nothing. It is a 2.5 K obstacle course that you run twice ! Very few and repetitive obstacles, quite boring ! Total waste of time and money !
Super Fun Day
Mud mud and more mud! My girls and I had so much fun, the slide was the best part for us. Very cool finisher medal as well!
Fantastic event
Participated at the Mud Factor in Anchorage last weekend with the family, we all had a great time. The event was well organized and the slide at the end was definitely a highlight. The finisher medal was very cool! Thank you Mud Factor!
