Master's athlete Lisa Nondorf spends lot of time on her feet training others between Conquer The Gauntlet races so recovery is a priority and OOFOS OOmg shoe helps with that.

I usually like to build up some anticipation regarding the product I’m reviewing, but I’ll cut to the bottom line up front for this one. OOFOS new shoes, the OOmg Shoes, are super comfortable, if you are a serious athlete and don’t own a pair you need to stop living in the past. If you are wondering why I’m saying this continue reading or just order your pair here.

Comfort:

It’s hard for me to convey to people how comfortable these shoes are. They advertise their shoes absorb 37% more impact than traditional shoe foam. From the first time you put them on you’ll notice they are very comfortable, but that’s not where they really shined for me.

Do they work?:

Yes. After my recent 48 hour Endure The Gauntlet my feet were tender, my legs were sore and I wasn’t the most mobile. After putting on OOFOS shoes, I was almost walking normal. When I got back to my house I took them off and started limping around the house because the hardwood floors hurt my feet. I ended up wearing my shoes around the house just for comfort for the next two days.

You might be thinking that’s great empirical data but what about hard data or scientific proof. While I can’t isolate all the variables, I can show you my Inside Tracker blood test results after Endure The Gauntlet. I took a blood test a month before Endure The Gauntlet and another one four days after the event. The results show I did damage to my body but not as much as I thought with several of my biomarkers actually improving despite having just finished a major endurance endeavor.

Favorite Use:

As a competitive athlete my favorite use for OOFOS is during a taper leading up to a major event and immediately post-event to speed recovery. However, you don’t need to be a pro/elite/competitive athlete to enjoy their benefit. Anyone who spends a lot of time on their feet and wants to be comfortable can benefit from OOFOS.

Fit:

If you read my review on the OOFOS sandals, you know they run a little large. However, the shoes run true to size. I’m normally a 9.5 in most shoes but my foot fits comfortably into an OOFOS sandal size 8 or 9. For the OOFOS shoes, the 8 was too small with my toes touching the end of the shoe, but the 9 felt comfortable.

Style/Options:

Until recently only the female OOFOS shoe was available. Now they have both male and female shoes available for purchase. For females, they also include several shoe variants including low top, high top, bootie and full boot. For the men that are a little more fashion forward, the only downside is the male shoe comes only in black. For the female shoes, they come in a variety of colors including pink, green, blue, black and grey.

Why you need the shoes:

Some of you reading this may already own a pair of the sandals and think, “I already have a pair of the sandals, why do I need the shoes too?” I’ll answer this as an Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) athlete. After finishing a rough race whether that be a 4 mile Conquer The Gauntlet or a 24 hour World’s Toughest Mudder, sometimes my feet are in rough shape. The soft upper of the shoe feels better on your feet than the rigid upper of a sandal. Personally, I think the sandals look better but I think the shoes feel better. Even with toenails turning purple from Ultra-OCR, tender spots and blisters in random places, the OOFOS OOmg Shoes were comfortable to wear.

Overall:

You may be wondering if they absorb so much impact, “Why don’t I have normal running shoes with this OOfoam?” Well, the problem is they absorb the impact and doesn’t spring back into place creating an equal or positive return.

OOFOS has created two great title products their sandals (which include a slide, a clog or a normal sandal variety) and their shoes (which include a low top, high top, bootie and full boot). Whatever variety you choose, I think you’ll find they live up to their name as you say “Ooooo” the first time you try a pair on.
