Kids were covered in little red bumps/rash that evening and for over a week. My daughter got cellulitis on her leg from one sore. The kids pit smelled of manure and was thick with wood chips. Not thw outcome i was hoping.

The run itself with the obstacles was amazing!

Everything else was horrible:
1. The organizers didn’t break people into different start times. So our start time we had a huge group. Meaning the whol first 1 km was a giant traffic jam.

2. The layout of the Mud Hero event area was really really bad:
a. The communal showers were on the opposite side of the area, exactly opposite of where the bag check is located.

b. The food court’s food pick up has a horrible layout. The fries cooking and serving had a tiny tent, much smaller than the condiments’ tent, with only two staff manning 3 tiny fryers and serving massive line ups. I waited in that line with many others in the rain. Me and all others got fully socked (with the burgers that I was holding) from the rain waiting for these fries.

The race was great the rest unfortunately, sucked.

Fun vs Danger

Jun 06, 2016 by Victoria

We have done this event a few times as well as other "mud runs" and I was very disappointing at how the torrent of mud was handled in terms of runner safety. We all know the risks of running a course like this. You will get dinged up and scraped and everyone accepts that. But with the heavy rain and HEAVILY used course the endless slipping was treacherous, not fun. We ended up walking it and believe me the comments from the other runners that passed us were not positive. We saw so many runners go down painfully, or lag in exhaustion just from slogging through heavy slippery mud in places where the course was supposed to be fairly clear. The hill climbs were just plain dangerous. So many people opted to walk around them. Compared to other years where we saw many volunteers lining the course and at most of the obstacles it seemed that, on this dangerously slippery day, they were few and far between. At one point Adam, the co-founder, was out trying to tape off an alternate route around one of the hill climbs because it was TOO DANGEROUS to tackle....unfortunately the alternate route was through prickly bushes, up a smaller slippery slope and along a 12" wide ridge that after 7 people walked along it was as slick as the hill itself.
I hate to say it, because i know a mud race is supposed to be hard and a little tricky and dirty---I even love that aspect of it--.... but Sundays run was just plain dangerous.
People do these runs for fun (for the most part).... and Sunday wasn't fun. Sorry.

next year, if it rains that hard again here is a little hint for the staff ........Drainage trenches!!!!!! Heck you can do it with a stick. And please...PLEASE, have at least one staff near each hill climb and obstacle. Some of the people who got hurt were just sitting there waiting for someone to track down a staff member. That's not ok.
We will be running again next year, rain or shine but we are seriously hoping the staff learned a few lessons this time around.

So much fun

Fabulous day. Did it as a mother-daughter bonding event. Wasn't sure what I was getting into and it definitely made me come out of my comfort zone. Couldn't help but enjoy every minute. Very well organized and many details were attended to. Definitely a "Do-Again" :)

Amazing OCR!!

From start to finish and everything in between the Mud Hero is a class event. The social media information is awesome and the staff are helpful and answer any questions you have. The event itself is so much fun and as challenging as you want. It has become a family event for me as my wife comes out (2015 is her first year to compete) and we bring our young daughter and son to show them how important fitness and fun is. The event itself is run smoothly and any issues are handled immediately by the operators. The course is great with more mud than I have ever seen, great sponsors and tents, awesome food, music and some of the best, local craft beer. The atmosphere is fun, and a little competitive, with the idea of having the best possible experience, getting dirty, working your butt off, and doing it all with a lot of friends. The mud is unreal and lives up to its name. The charity work that MH does with the shoe donation is great and a very worthy cause (bring flip flops or other footwear for after). When I had questions, one of the owners got back to me immediately. You won't get that anywhere else. Customer service and the experience are their big features. Get into this event...I am coming back early from vacation so I don't miss it!!

Awesome event! It was the perfect blend of challenges for any athletic ability. From the moment we parked our car, to picking up our bibs, to cleaning up afterwards, the MudHero team paid attention to every last detail. I can't wait to have my family and friends join me for the 2015 event!
