On my vacation trip to visit relatives and friends in Germany, I decided to take the first stop in England. The reason: I needed to go where the sport that we all love and practice so intensively was BORN and originated. Yes, the –so called- mecca of OCR: Tough Guy® – The Original; taking place on January 29 close to Wolverhampton in England.
Arnel Banawa of OCRTUBE traveled to the United Kingdom to capture the drama and action of the last Tough Guy Challenge on the event's 30th anniversary. Not only did Banawa capture the essence of the race in his short video below but also had a chance to fit down with the race's mastermind known to most as simply Mr. Mouse.
"Why the #$%* would anyone pay money and sign a 'death waiver' only to be scared, uncomfortable, frozen, shocked, bumped & bruised, battered and broken?"In other words, WTF is wrong with all these people?
The obstacle racing season is starting to kick it back into high gear with many of the high profile series beginning their seasons as we round out the month of January. Mud Run Guide has members of our team traveling around the country and world to cover many of these races. The highlights of the coming weekend are Spartan Race kicking off their season outside Temecula, California, BattleFrog Series with their second race of the season outside Phoenix, Arizona.
Once I learned about Tough Guy, and it being the first and original obstacle course race ever created, I knew I had to go and do the winter race. I was originally going to stay at a hotel in town, but was invited to stay at Tough Guy HQ and Mr. Mouse’s home. I arrived on Thursday to give myself some time to recoup from the travel and time change. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed with open arms into the Mouse family home by both the Tough Guy staff and Mr. Mouse and his entire family.
