The OCR World Championships and Warrior Dash

Warrior Dash is excited to partner with the OCR World Championships for their international championship event taking place on October 14-16, 2016 at Blue Mountain Resort, in Ontario, Canada. Competitive Warriors can qualify by finishing in the top 10 for their gender in any Warrior Dash competitive wave. The top three male and top three female finishers will be recognized on stage at their respective Warrior Dash award ceremony.

“We believe in cultivating a successful future for the sport of obstacle racing and look forward to providing our elite athletes the chance to compete in the premier OCR championship event,” said Ryan Kunkel, Co-CEO of Red Frog Events, the company behind Warrior Dash. “The team at the OCR World Championships host a well-executed event and we’re excited to see our top Warrior Dash participants compete amongst the best OCR athletes from around the globe.”

“The future of obstacle course racing relies on the collective community, including race organizations, working together to continue to drive it forward and ensure its success,” said Adrian Bijanada, OCR World Championships Founder and CEO. ”Since 2009, Warrior Dash has introduced millions of athletes to OCR and we couldn’t be happier to partner with them more closely on a variety of initiatives in 2016.”

Editor's Note: We've received quite a few questions about whether this alignment with OCRWC means Warrior Dash will or will not hold their own World Championship, so to be clear: Warrior Dash will not be holding their own Warrior Dash World Championship in 2016, instead they will be supporting the OCR World Championships as the destination for qualifiers (top 10 men/women from the competitive heat.

WARRIOR DASH CHALLENGES CONSUMERS TO “DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH YOUR WEEKEND”

Beard Bibs, Pork Wings, New Obstacles and Brag-Worthy Photo Opportunities in the Eighth Season

CHICAGO, IL (November 24) – Warrior Dash, the 5K obstacle course race that more than 2.5 million people have completed since 2009, is releasing new features for its eighth season. As the obstacle course race that anyone can start and everyone can finish, Warrior Dash encourages new and returning participants to “Do Something Different With Your Weekend” in 2016.

On the Battleground

New and updated obstacles, including Fisherman’s Catch and Goliath 2.0, will debut in 2016. Runners can also expect the return of participant-favorite obstacles like Pipeline and Great Warrior Wall. Warrior Dash will maintain the 5K distance in 2016, providing an attainable goal for new runners or an opportunity to cross-train for more experienced athletes.

“We’re embracing the quirky side of Warrior Dash in 2016,” says Warrior Dash Course and Obstacle Designer, Terry McMahon. “We designed our new obstacles to be challenging, but something that everyone can do. Our participants continue to ask for more engagement on the course and in the festival; this year, runners can anticipate added excitement at every corner of the event.”

A Kick-Ass Festival

The spiciest addition to the 2016 season is the introduction of Warrior Wings. Participants and spectators are invited to test their spice tolerance by entering the hot sauce challenge. For those interested in indulging in the mouthwatering wings sans fire sauce, the signature food plate includes a half-pound of pork wings with seasoned fries, choice of mild or hot sauce, and, most notably, the Warrior Dash Beard Bib.

Warrior Hangout, the popular festival obstacle from 2015, has been upgraded for participants and spectators looking to test their endurance off the course. Enjoy a live DJ, more photo opportunities, new sponsorship activations, and a full lineup of contests like tug-o-war, dancing, best beard, costume, and more. The festival remains free of charge and open to the public.

Participant Swag

Brand new 2016 finisher t-shirts, one-of-a-kind medals that double as wall-mountable bottle openers, and the signature fuzzy Warrior Helmet are included with each participant registration. Warriors 21 and over will receive a complimentary Shock Top Belgian White beer tab on their personalized race bib.
