Spartan Race Agoge 001 took place over the weekend in Pittsfield, Vermont. The 48-hour extreme endurance event is put on by Spartan Race and part of the Training Trifecta for the Spartan Delta for 2016. The event is part endurance challenge and part educational workshop in survival skills. The winter edition of the race this year focused on two of the SpartanX Pillars of “Finding Your True North” and “Commitment“. Participants were put through a series of tasks and challenges that tested both these mental skills as well as other challenges that tested their physical survival skills.

This morning we spoke with one of the twenty-eight finishers from the event this past weekend, Jason Jaksetic. Jaksetic is the Lifestyle Editor for Spartan Race and also an accomplished ultra-distance triathlete and experience ultra-endurance athlete. He has competed in previous Death Races as well as finished multiple double Iron distance triathlon (two times the distances for each discipline).

Mud Run Guide spoke with Jaksetic from the Pittsfield General Store this morning about what it takes to complete an Agoge, how to prepare, and what to expect. We also spoke about what the immediate takeaways from the 48-hour endurance event and what will carry over into his job and life.

Finally, Jaksetic gives some tips for others who are interested in Agoge, how to prep, and what to have as a base before attempting this extreme endurance challenge.
