Allison Tai shares her experience on at the Spartan Race Ultra Championships that were recently held in Iceland. Charity Fick finds out what it took for this elite athlete to finish 3rd in the race this year.
From surviving a road biking accident that left her with many broken bones, to nursing her children while on the course it seems like there is nothing that Allison can’t or won’t do. I have the honor of interviewing her for this piece, as everyone has their “layers”. Allison is a super nice person, but when it comes down to her coaching and training, she is not afraid to push you outside of your comfort zone.
Allison Tai is an accomplished endurance athlete and obstacle racer. She shares her top tips for the 2016 World's Toughest Mudder in this video. Tai finished second at the 2014 World's Toughest Mudder while stopping to breastfeed her daughter during the race. Tai is the Co-Founder of VanCity OCR a training space for obstacle racers and fitness enthusiasts in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She recently won the Ultra Beast in Lake Tahoe.
VanCity OCR is the brainchild of the husband and wife team, John and Allison Tai. The VanCity OCR group is local to Vancouver, B.C. Canada but its members are from all areas of the lower mainland, so it is not super restricted or inclusive, all are welcome. Not only do John and Allison race themselves, but they coach, train, motivate and inspire through their Spartan SGX workouts and other training. They are never too busy to answer a quick question or calm a fear you might have about a race or other challenge you want to tackle.
