Episode Recap – Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge: Season 2 Episode 6 Quarter-Finals

By |July 18th, 2017|

Cue lovely stringed music and…a promise that bonds will grow stronger between team members, brothers, teams, and families. So whose bonds proved victorious? In heat 1 we had Saddle Up, Mathletes, and Ninjas. Heat 2 had the Better Halves, Kid Courage, and Stunt Junkies. In honor of the bond I have with my son who is a physics and math major, I went with the Mathletes in Heat 1. For the bond I have with my own autistic youngest son, I went with Kid Courage in Heat 2.

Tonight’s episode began the quarter-finals. The first heat teams included Heart of Texas, Commanding Officers, and Showtime. Heat two included Little Giants, Comeback Kids, and Strike a Pose. I’ve got the CO’s in heat one and the CKs and heat 2

Episode Recap – Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge: Season 2 Episode 4

By |July 5th, 2017|

Has Spartan or NBC or both stooped to the low level of drama instead of the sport?  I’ll just say that I called it first a week ago with the young lady participating despite having a brittle bone disease.  This week we allegedly had one, maybe two non-swimmers.  I have to pin this one on NBC and the producers for drama.

Your Best Training Course May be a Playground

By |July 4th, 2017|

Back in the winter, Hubie Cushman messaged me with a huge opportunity. He wanted me to cover his Indian Mud Run event which occurred just two Saturdays ago. While fellow MRG blogger Keven Parrish got the scoop out in Conshocton, OH, I was wrapping up a family vacation scheduled nearly a year earlier. One of the highlights of the race, and the reason for my invite, was Larry Cooper and his Destroyer. It turns out, Indian Mud Run was a whole lot more than a playground race.

Ocean City Local Gym and Fitness – Obstacles for the Memorial Beach Challenge

By |June 29th, 2017|

Last month I recapped the Memorial Beach Challenge race from Ocean City, NJ. One of the obstacle stations was built and manned by the team from Local Gym and Fitness. It was a triple threat obstacle with tires laid out on the sand for high knees followed by pull up bars capped off with a super low barbed wire crawl through the soft sand.

Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge – Season 2 Episode 3

By |June 27th, 2017|

Three things drove my interest in tonight’s episode. First, I started friending and following participants on FB. So now, rather than picking them randomly like I do in March Madness, I know a bit more about them. Second, I identify with some of them, especially team Kid Courage. As the father of two autistic sons, I get the struggle. But is it a driver to succeed?

Race Recap – Bonefrog NJ: Technical Obstacle Training

By |June 21st, 2017|

Almost one year to the date I started training my friend John for OCR. It was therapy for me as I recovered from ACL surgery. It was torture for John. He had no idea what to expect. Like many first-timers, he thought he knew. He felt like he was in shape. After all, we’d been [...]

Episode Recap – Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2 Episode 2

By |June 20th, 2017|

Our hosts wondered aloud if there were demons in this race. Perhaps not. But there were quite a few near-death experiences to help drive a few competitors to some very strong showing. Yet one girl from the Wall Street Warriors said, “You have to sacrifice everything for one another to win.” Personal sacrifice may make you a lot of money in the Manhattan Financial District, but teamwork makes you a winner on SUTC, demons or not.

Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge: Season 2 Episode 1

By |June 13th, 2017|

Before the race, I spent an hour reviewing the trailer and the team photos for the new season of Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge.  It felt like March Madness where I pick teams based on as little information as possible.  Turns out my initial assessments were wrong.  Apolo Ohno called it right.  This year's completion will require more teamwork than ever before.

Race Recap – XX Race iMETTLE and Performance Assessment Intro

By |June 8th, 2017|

I turned our other bud Ed onto the iMETTLE gym in King of Prussia, PA. I’ve been training Ed on and off since he did the Citizen’s Bank Park Stadium Sprint last year. He’s hooked. He was an easy catch. He’s part of the reason why we thought Steve would be easy too. Steve lives really close to iMETTLE.
