Two weeks ago Cassidy’s reign came to an end at the hands and feet of Corinna. Ms. Coffin has a history in OCR by showing up kind of unannounced and blowing everyone else out of the water. Before there was Rea Kolbl at WTM, there was Corinna Coffin. I don’t see either one of these ladies letting go of their crowns anytime soon. Tonight will be no exception.
Audiences are wondering. The OCR community is in hot debate. Can anybody beat Hunter McIntyre’s 6:01 Skullbuster? I’m here to tell you a secret. This is how you might be able to beat him. Actually, it’s not my secret. McIntyre himself let it out a few months ago on Facebook.
Last week, some very well-known coaches in OCR got into the BSRC men’s division debate. The focus was on who can beat Hunter and what would it take (besides beating a time of 6:01). The viewpoint of the coach was one we don’t see often. But I follow these guys closely and pick up any tidbit of info I can to improve my own game. At 55 years of age, I’m not out to pick off the Sheriff. But I am in it to stay in it for the long haul.
This week, the spotlight switches to a new set of girls on Broken Skull Challenge. But who are they? Unlike Ms. Van Paris and crew, this latest group of eight is curiously silent. Does that mean they hate each other? Will there be blood on the course tonight? One thing is for sure.
After our third kid, Emily (my killer awesome wife) starting working out hard in the most inconvenient times (early morning and late night) to lose the baby weight. She proved to me that it can be done and that health is important. The “I need to change” moment occurred in my parents’ kitchen. My dad squeezed my shoulder and said, “That extra weight looks good on you Rick. Makes you look like a man.” I wear my weight well, and he was sincere. I looked stronger, but it was just a layer of fat. It was the first time that someone, excluding Emily, acknowledged the “extra weight.”
Last July, Janice Ferguson was selected to compete on CMT’s reality show, Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge. Ferguson an experienced obstacle racer, CrossFit athlete, coach, gym owner, and endurance athlete shares her experience on the show as well as shares tips for those looking to compete on the upcoming season.
This was a new event that first came to my attention in May. Chris Reese, a Steve Austin’s Skull Buster challenge participant, happened to be at another local race with me and filled me in on his upcoming event. Chris’ OCR background and contacts give him a good insight into putting on an event. I was not going to do this race initially because it fell on a Saturday and I figured I would have to work.
