Race Recap: Epic Series Obstacle Challenge

Epic Series is not like your “ traditional “ obstacle course races. It’s not “ a runner’s course.” It's a very short course combined with obstacle challenges focusing on strength and lifting heavy objects. There is very little running with the exception of the beginning sprint lap.

Does a Disconnect Exist between Mud Runs and The OCR Community?

Recently, I was asked why I didn't participate in the SoCal Warrior Dash a couple of weeks ago as I have for the past consecutive years. My response was that of silence. I shrugged my shoulders and carried on with my day. The truth is I know why I didn't participate, but I couldn't bring myself to admit the reason until now. As an Obstacle Course Racer Enthusiasts, I was baffled by my reasoning. Have I outgrown Warrior Dash? Am I an OCR snob? Even more disturbing is the realization that more and more traditional Mud Runs are becoming in Disconnect from The OCR Community.

2016 OCR Season Arrives: BattleFrog San Diego

The 2016 OCR Season has arrived, and BattleFrog kicked off the year with it's long awaited debut on the West Coast. Not only was this BattleFrog's first event on the West Coast, but it was also the first time that Pro Athlete Ryan Atkins took on the role of course designer. For many Californians, this was the first BattleFrog experience and SoCal welcomed BF with open arms.

Race Recap – Savage Race, Dallas

Last week I enjoyed the opportunity to experience Savage Race for the very first time. I have heard many great things about Savage Race but wanted to experience it for myself. Although there was one small obstacle or hurdle rather. Savage Race hasn't made it to the west coast yet, so I packed my bags headed to the lone star state of Grand Ole Texas to see why Savage Race boasts they have, " The World's Best Obstacles.

Event Recap: Battle on the Bay at The PlayPen

The Play Pen is a relatively new Obstacle Course Training Camp that opened in November 2014 and is operated by Coach Quentin Pullen or Coach “Q” as he is known in the OCR Community, an SGX certified trainer and works in conjunction with The YMCA Located in beautiful Newport Beach overlooking the lagoons of Orange County. The camp is open daily and holds boot camp/ CrossFit sessions regularly throughout the week. The Play Pen includes obstacles such as tire jumps, a gut checker, an 8ft wall, hurdles, rope climbs, a cargo climb, a multi rig and a low crawl. On August 2nd, The Play Pen held its inaugural event “Battle on The Bay”. Six OCR Teams from the Southern California area came together to go head to head to see who is the baddest OCR Team in West.

Race Review: Terrain Mud Runs Flagstaff, Arizona

Terrain Mud Runs held their Signature Event last weekend in Flagstaff Arizona. Set on Fort Tuthill County Park at 7000 ft in the Ponderosa Pines Terrain Racing offered two course distances of a 5k, 10k, and 1/2 mile kids course. It was a fun and challenging event for all ages and athletic abilities. The perfect weekend adventure for the entire family or as we have come to call it in the OCR Community, #RaceCation.
