Race Recap: BADASS Dash, Keswick, Ontario

By |August 23rd, 2015|

This BADASS Dash was held at the ROC (Recreational Outdoor Campus) located at 26749 Civic Centre Road in Georgina, Ontario. It was easy to navigate to and was directly north of Toronto on Hwy 404 until it ended at the lake. Garmin found the location easily and traffic was quite good considering it was a long weekend. There was good some signage once you approached the venue that clearly directed you into the grounds.

This is the third year in a row that I’ve participated in the Udder Mud Run and this wonderful local OCR keeps getting progressively better. It is a fairly challenging race that every athlete or just a “fun runner” of any fitness level can complete while enjoying a family friendly event that’s a blast for everyone.

Plan A Racecation

By |June 17th, 2015|

Recently, my wife and I took our first real racecation – a vacation featuring a race that we wanted to run. We’ve traveled for races before, but almost always to locations that are easily accessible by car, and then we spent a couple of nights before heading home. Las Vegas, Phoenix and Monterey are great examples of this type of close travel, and they tend to be a very fun weekend.

Race Recap: Krell Adventure Games

By |June 9th, 2015|

This was my first Krell Adventure Games and I was very excited to be doing the event with my friend Franklyn Newby. The Krell Adventure games not an obstacle course race but something closer to orienteering event or adventure race. The course did include several obstacles as part of the twenty challenges, but the majority of the challenges were challenges, not obstacles. Franklyn and I were pleased with the course and that it wasn’t your typical obstacle course race.

Race Recap: Born Survivor

By |April 14th, 2015|

Nervous chatter. Remember that? It’s the sound you heard when you walk into an OCR, and you’re surrounded by people who haven’t run many of them before. They see the obstacles, off in the distance, and wonder how they’ll do it. They hear the announcer pumping the next wave up and turn to their friends … “what the hell did you get me into?"

Race Recap: Rugged Maniac Arizona

By |November 26th, 2014|

This is my second Rugged Maniac, the last one was in 2012 before Shark Tank. I can say that I enjoyed it the first time, but the second time was even better.

Race Recap: BattleFrog Series Miami

By |November 24th, 2014|

It’s rather hard to believe that BattleFrog’s first race ever was staged in Atlanta less than six months ago.  This was only their sixth Event, yet they already have a level of professionalism that rivals other race series that have been doing this for years.

Race Recap: Gladiator Rock N Run

By |November 20th, 2014|

Taking a page from the 80’s, former American Gladiators star; Dan “NITRO” Clark has created a race series! I can still remember as a kid watching these gladiators taking on the everyday Joe in a series of challenges. Looking back on it, I can now see the clear correlation between what those competitors encountered back then to what we were about to experience in Dan’s vision.
