It’s World’s Toughest Mudder Week 2016! We are inching closer and closer to Saturday and the start of the 6th Annual World's Toughest Mudder. Yesterday we looked at the top men to watch and today we focus on the ladies.
Tough Mudder officially unveiled the new mobile app for 2016 World's Toughest Mudder today. This new mobile app offers participants, crew, and loved ones a new way to track the 24-hour race. The app features live coverage, course map, and live tracking. As well as a viewing guide, event schedule, rules, and hall of fame. Changing the experience for anyone wanting to follow the race.
The joy and challenge of a 24-hour event are that you don’t need to run fast to succeed. With slow, constant forward progress you can cover a huge amount of ground so that you will look back on your day and feel like you have accomplished something great.
Allison Tai is an accomplished endurance athlete and obstacle racer. She shares her top tips for the 2016 World's Toughest Mudder in this video. Tai finished second at the 2014 World's Toughest Mudder while stopping to breastfeed her daughter during the race. Tai is the Co-Founder of VanCity OCR a training space for obstacle racers and fitness enthusiasts in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She recently won the Ultra Beast in Lake Tahoe.
Last year I was a last-minute addition to Pit for my daughter Kait Karel. In the two weeks before the event, I read everything I could - besides watching the requisite Pis’and’Cox Pit Crew episode - and talked to multiple athletes about how I could best help my athlete. I threw in a few of my ideas. Kait rocked WTM 2015, and I was thrilled to be a part of it and to help where I could. This past spring we resurrected our Pit-Athlete act at BFX24 in Miami.
Now that we’re within a month of WTM, we get to see the final set of rules! There was a lot of speculation behind these rules for this year's event. Tough Mudder recently sent out the updated rules for 2016 and the community starting chatting. When we sign up for crazy events like this, we’re allowing the HQ to define the parameters for our efforts to count, so it’s important to understand exactly what these rules are so we can do as well as possible on event day.
For those who love Obstacle Course Racing and participate year round, chances are your performance has been effected more than once by the cold. Whether it be an all-night sufferfest at World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM), being stuck at an obstacle at the OCR World Championships or just racing on an exceptionally cold day. Seeing the freezing updates from the 2016 Spartan World Championship and Ultra Beast, it seems like a perfect time to talk about a new product that is about to hit the market.
This year has been exciting for the endurance OCR community with the expansion of BFX, the first BFX24, the promotion of Spartan Endurance, the beginning of the Spartan Agoge, and now Tough Mudder’s new event type that was just announced: Toughest! (Not to be confused with the European Obstacle Race Series) So what is this new thing and when can you get involved? Well, that’s what I’m here for.
I was friends with Yancy Culp before he started training full-time. He is a motivator! It's hard not to get excited after talking to him. Yancy has been my personal trainer for two and half years. My wife and I also motivate each other to stay at it.
