Last Week in OCR: Showdown in the Desert

The obstacle racing season continues to pick up steam in the west over the weekend. BattleFrog Series was in Las Vegas for the first time and Spartan Race headed back to Arizona for a Sprint distance race. In Florida, mud runners were being chased by zombies in the Largo, Florida 5K Zombie Run. Around the world races took place in Australia, the United Kindom and Ireland.

This morning a man, Ken, just happened to walk by a pit stop and said, “Hey! Are you walking across the country? I just heard about you on the radio!” Then continued to share hydration techniques. Then, this afternoon high schoolers Chris and Ricco, joined Adam walking and asked Adam to sign their track shoes for good luck in this upcoming season. So cool!

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Day 12

Adam was a new man today after three days of rest. He started the day off strong walking from 4 am to 8:45 am and accomplishing 15 miles at a 15-minute mile pace. This was a huge improvement from his average twenty-minute mile pace four days ago. Adam has been setting small goals for himself to have tiny victories throughout the day. His overall goal for today was 40 miles with his pain at or below a five out of ten.

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Days 9-11

Today was a day of rest for Adam. He finished the day yesterday at sunset and his pain level in his left shin was at a 10 out of 10. He connected with his doctor and was advised to get rest. So, Adam and Karen decided to have Adam rest for two days to see how he feels after getting some rest. His health is the main priority right now.

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA – Day 8

Day 8 was a day of rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. Adam broke the day down into small goals of five-mile segments. He completed eight cycles of walking five miles then celebrating with a pit stop. The team would get Adam stretched, hydrated, and fed and then Adam would head out for the next five miles again.

You laugh out loud, cry, hug strangers and high-five little kids along the race route, or throw mind-numbing hissy fits over an untied shoelace. You're a snot-rocketing, behind-a-bush peeing, 4am alarm-setting running machine. It's true, you're ^&* crazy. Get used to it. It may sound out-of-your-mind-nuts, but anyone who's been on the endurance rollercoaster has had the above experience. Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA – Days 5-7

The crew is quickly realizing the challenge of the planned route as we head further east in California. The desert is pretty isolated with sometimes only I-10 passing through the area. As a pedestrian, Adam can’t be on the interstate, and as a crew, it is illegal for us to stop on the interstate if it's not an emergency.

Adam's body continues to adjust to the mileage as he crosses an ever-changing landscape. Today's route was mostly along narrow roads and sandy access roads following I-10. We ran south of Joshua Tree National Park and are feeling blessed to experience the beauty of this part of the country. We knew before sunrise that we were going to have to fight for day 4.

Latin America Update: OCR and Spartan Race in Mexico this Year. Anyone?

2016 will be an exciting year for OCR in Mexico. With the rapid rise of OCR and mainly Spartan Race across the World, Mexico hasn’t been left behind. The first big OCR in Mexico was organized by Spartan Race three years ago in 2013 attracting a lot of new racers & people seeking for all these new alternative sports in running and adventure racing.
