Tough Mudder has a new competitive option (Tougher Mudder) for those of us who enjoy being timed and competing against the clock and our fellow Mudder! The competition is attracting some new and great talent to events including Arizona. Here I’ll talk about how the competitive wave is different from the normal Tough Mudder and take you through the competition in Arizona this past weekend.
Over the weekend, several Obstacle Course Racing Associations from around Europe came together to meet in Sardinia to form the European Obstacle Sports Federation. This is the beginning of establishing a European sports governing body for OCR and related sports. During the meeting, a constitution was drafted and signed by eight associations.
Ankles, a lot of people know the problem or have met/seen someone during a race. Sprained ankles are one of the most common injuries in our sport. At the 2014 OCRWC, I snapped my ankle, and my OCR “career” was over. After two surgeries I started running again, but I was too afraid to go all the way like I did before.
Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge is back for a second season with some new hosts. Currently, NBC is testing out the course at an undisclosed location outside of Atlanta and filming of the popular competition reality show will begin soon.
All Out Adventure Series recently put on their annual Checkpoint Challenge. Checkpoint Challenge offers participants a chance to take a dip into Adventure Racing with a short 2-4 hour and 6-hour race. Both events offer participants an opportunity to try out the world of Adventure Racing and still make it home in time for lunch or dinner.
I've rarely ever had a big issue with jumping into the fire with new gear, if it works as anticipated and I don't have to think about it at all it's a win. Occasionally, I will be blown away by the performance of a product and the entire time I'm running I mentally craft the product review with flowery superlatives... that I forget once my endorphins abate. Bonefrog Challenge's second race of the 2017 season took place on March 25th, 2017 outside of Birmingham Alabama at the Talladega Speedway. The following is our quick overview and recap of the race.
Imagine if a weatherproof Cookie Monster gave you a bear hug - that's what slipping a dryrobe over your cold, wet body feels like; the only thing missing is an espresso machine in one of the inside pockets.
Each lap of approximately 5 miles featured three different loops; Technical, Strength, and Speed. Each of those loops needed to be completed in order, and only the final number of loops completed by the time cut-off at 2pm on Sunday, there were no partial miles awarded for any unfinished laps. Each obstacle must be completed within 3 tries or penalty lap/exercise was incurred.
