Badass Women of OCR: Margaret Schlachter

By |February 8th, 2017|

I can’t say enough good things about this truly amazing woman. From being one of the first women to conquer OCR, she has been the voice of strength for many of us looking to get into the sport. Often she has been referred to by Brett Stewart as “his little sister” when he speaks about her. I wanted you all to get a better sense of who Margaret is and how she continues to be a strong female voice in the OCR community.

Race Recap – Dirty Girl Arizona

By |April 14th, 2016|

Normally I sign up for as many races as I possibly can but I came across a race that I just couldn’t sign up for, literally. As hard as I tried to persuade the nice folks at the Dirty Girl Mud Run to let me run their race they stuck to their theme of a girl’s only event. My last ditch offer was made to run in drag but that request was also turned down. So I did the next best thing and I signed up to volunteer for this female only event that focuses on educating women about cancer prevention and celebrates those who have battled the deadly disease.

Race Recap – F.I.T. Challenge VI

By |April 13th, 2016|

F.I.T. Challenge has been on the New England scene for a few years now. The popular local series offers both spring and fall versions of its race and recently held their sixth event. I've missed the last few races in the series but based on the glowing reviews from previous events, I was excited to see how they've grown and improved.

Race Recap – Terrain Mud Run SoCal

By |April 7th, 2016|

Terrain Racing’s angry monkey medals invaded Southern California for the first time this weekend with 5k and 10k race distances outside the Storm Baseball Stadium in Lake Elsinore, CA. I’m a fan of this race series, and have run their Flagstaff race for the last two years, so I was eager to have them come to a venue closer to me.

Race Recap: Warrior Dash SoCal – Are They Even Trying Anymore?

By |March 22nd, 2016|

In 2012, my wife Anne and a couple of her friends did a Warrior Dash as one of her first obstacle course races. At the time, I was sidelined with an injury, and although I've done dozens of different OCRs in the intervening years, I had never done a Warrior Dash before last weekend. As a result, I was excited to give this one a try, as I've heard for years about Warrior Dash being one of "the big three" and the "gateway drug to OCR".

Are you coming down to Atlas Race in San Antonio this weekend? Probably not, I hear they’re going to go under soon. They have a short course competition after the main race. I’ll be there!
