Race Recap: 2015 Spartan Nashville Sprint

By |October 30th, 2015|

The inaugural 2015 Nashville Spartan Sprint was held October 24th at Fort Campbell, Kentucky on the scenic grounds of Fort Campbell itself. The 5.34-mile course only boasted 154 feet of total elevation gain which made it one of the easiest Spartan Races I’ve ever done.

Tough Mudder Philly – A His and Hers Recap

By |October 28th, 2015|

Tough Mudder Philly was originally scheduled to be one of the first events of 2015 in the Pocono Mountains. For unknown reasons, the event was rescheduled for mid October and changed locations to Coatesville, Pa. The Saturday/Sunday combo welcomed Mudders to the small town located about an hour west of Philadelphia. The lasting memory of this event will likely be the chilly weather that hung around all weekend proving to be the extra obstacle which seemed most difficult to prepare for. In this review, you will get the his/her perspective from Jason and Lisa.

Race Recap – The Cataraqui Adventure Trek

By |September 17th, 2015|

Any of you who follow my race reviews know that I am always open to try new things and we gals love an adventure.  Last weekend we were pleasantly surprised by a new event that just launched in our own neck of the woods; it was a great short drive to the race site and there was an element of intrigue as we were only given snippets of information prior to race day.

Race Recap: Wintergreen, VA – Spartan Super

By |September 1st, 2015|

Wintergreen, very few events regardless of which OCR company is doing them, brings to mind such suffering. While Spartan does have events that are more difficult, this is the mass event which everyone respects. The weather this year was a huge improvement from last year. The few days leading up to the event looked like it could be a repeat of the rain and fog. But Spartans everywhere prayed to the proper gods and the skies opened to allow for beautiful views of the epic scenery and a light breeze to keep it reasonable, but in true Spartan fashion that is where the nice things ended.

OCR to Highlight The Running Event in Austin

By |July 27th, 2015|

Running is one of the most popular fitness activities in North America, but it's not necessarily practiced in a straight line. While marathons, particularly half-marathons increase in popularity, so does Obstacle Course Racing (OCR), which The Running Event (TRE) will examine in a new Experiential Zone adjacent to the main hall of the Austin Convention Center, Dec. 1-4, 2015.

TM2.0: Tough Mudder Redefined

By |January 14th, 2015|

The early buzz may be about the new obstacles (I promise, the details are coming soon), but the real changes on the course alter the dynamic of what it takes to become a Tough Mudder: Teamwork. Many of the new or upgraded obstacles require teamwork to get over, and approximately half of the 2015 Tough Mudder course cannot be completed alone. Remember the days when you ran up Everest solo? No more. Climbing out of Mud Mile pits by yourself? Nope. Hold Your Wood? Bring a team for these telephone poles. "We didn't set out to make it tougher, we decided to deliver new obstacles and challenged for Mudders to overcome - together."

World’s Toughest Mudder – Pre-Race Thoughts from a Veteran Racer

By |November 11th, 2014|

The hype and buzz within the World’s Toughest Community (WTM) has been crazy since the date and location was announced back in May. Tough Mudder decided with its fourth WTM to really change things up and step away from the home venue of Raceway Park in Englishtown New Jersey, and take the show out to Las Vegas. I can say I am glad I raced last year so that I did one at Raceway, but I am very happy for a change of venue. While no two events are the same, even if at the same location, the change will keep everyone guessing. Personally I think this change will have an impact on the final standings, while it will likely still be the same few ultra-elites in the top 10, I think we may see a new winner for both the male and female.
