Spartan Race had a very busy weekend with the Championships in Iceland, a race in Los Angeles, and a race in Central Florida. There was a lot going on and a lot of people chasing their final Trifectas of the year. I had the pleasure of running both days in Central Florida and drew a [...]
It is really tough to follow a Spartan Kids World Championship and the first ever Elite Para Heat, but there was a race day on Sunday with thousands of people taking on the Super course. This was one of the few weekends where Spartan flipped the distances and ran the Sprint on Saturday and the Super on Sunday...
The weather has been unseasonably warm in Colorado during the month of September and that set things up for a beautiful day for Warrior Dash. Even the competitive wave that set off at 8 am was greeted by temperatures in the mid-70s and anyone who ran between 12-2 had to deal with temperatures reaching almost 90. This made all the water obstacles and the mud pit at the end feel so much better.
The 2018 OCR season has been a real eye-opener for me. I’ve already dealt with a medial DNF, earned a nice broken foot and, as I type this, sit here with all kinds of patterns of kinesiology tape on my back, applied by a chiropractor at a licensed PT facility. As I age, I find I’m more susceptible to injury, and those recovery times seem to lengthen after every birthday.
Colorado is known for its 300 plus days of sunshine a year but also for weather that can change very quickly. The Breckenridge Beast started like any other mountain morning with a cool breeze and fresh air. The race director let us all know they were tracking a storm that could roll in around 9:30 and what the procedures would be if there was lightning within 6 miles of the course.
Last year after the Rugged Maniac event in Cloverdale, BC, Canada, my husband and I decided to challenge ourselves and sign up for the Rugged Maniac X - this option allowed runners to complete as many laps of the 5km course as they wanted.
CerusRuk is a 5-mile obstacle course race through a yak farm where racers are required to wear a 30lb rucksack as they traverse the course. This race was a unique blend of OCR, a ruck event, and a few Ninja Warrior style obstacles.
The most recent stop in the Spartan Honor Series presented by USAA was at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While most Spartans were watching Robert Killian and Samantha Wood crush the course and take the Elite podiums, Operation Enduring Warrior and Team OscarMike were preparing for the culmination of their weekend.
In life, often we feel that things should go in one direction, but a life event opens our eyes and leads us along a new path. In Jessika Poppe's case, this was very true. Initially, she wanted to be a nurse, but after the loss of her Grandparents she realized instead of treating the sick, she wanted to help people live healthy and happy lives.
Candice McKnight is a Badass Woman in OCR as she has embraced change, constantly faces her fears, and is pushing herself to do more and be more. She has come so far in her health journey, and I am excited to share her story with you all.
