OCR Insider: BattleFrog Behind the Scenes

By |April 11th, 2016|

The game-plan for BattleFrog Series' growth is to be full-steam ahead; during several different occasions with Ramiro he's explained the strategy of developing the entire sport of OCR, and how ESPN commercials and reality competitions, the Bowl Series, and investments in obstacle development (like the MOBs mentioned earlier) coupled with explosive expansion all over North America will create the future of the sport, obstacle course racing as a household term, or OCR 2.0 (my term).

Faces at the Races — Jay Flores

By |April 11th, 2016|

"I’ll never be the tallest or the strongest at a start line, but I promise you that there are few out there will as much heart and will power as me. There are no other option but to complete the course or be dragged off." Jay Flores is this week's Faces at the Races profile.

Race Recap – Terrain Mud Run SoCal

By |April 7th, 2016|

Terrain Racing’s angry monkey medals invaded Southern California for the first time this weekend with 5k and 10k race distances outside the Storm Baseball Stadium in Lake Elsinore, CA. I’m a fan of this race series, and have run their Flagstaff race for the last two years, so I was eager to have them come to a venue closer to me.

Faces at the Races — Tyler Markley

By |April 4th, 2016|

Tyler Markley if this week's featured athlete on Faces at the Races. From Markley, OCR was initially just a "fit goal" that I set to keep motivated when I first began training. After my first race (Savage Pro), I realized that I had stumbled upon something that I not only enjoyed but also something that I was quite good at.

A Spartan’s Quest: Joe De Sena’s Greatest Challenge Yet

In some areas, the wall is beautiful; the stones you walk on and virtually every surface you touch is made out of bricks that were fired in a kiln. The structural ones were quarried, and the base is basically mounds of packed earth, but the wall becomes a sculpture on the surface. In other areas, the Great Wall is nothing more than a pile of rubble. Some parts have completely disintegrated and you'd never even know the wall was there.

At BattleFrog, ‘BF’ Now Means “Beginner Friendly”

By |March 28th, 2016|

BattleFrog Series is nothing if not ambitious; scaling an event from 3-6 events is a big deal, and moving into a new state is fraught with difficulty on levels of magnitude to putting on an event in your home market - ask any race company in (or out) of business now. What BFS did is beyond definition, and beyond reckless for any other event to even attempt. The sport is littered with the carcasses of races that tried, yet this is not a homage to their failures, it's a nod to the audacity of BattleFrog's ownership and executive management; they have a plan of action that would make any CPA tremble.

OCR’S MOST COLORFUL CHARACTERS – Tod Sorum Brilliant

By |March 28th, 2016|

In our new MUD RUN GUIDE series, we will seek to highlight some of these people, who keep us quite often thinking, frequently smiling, and always on our toes. I decided to keep the questions simple as these folks do not need a fancy canvas to paint a colorful picture. Bottom line, without them – OCR would not be OCR.
