At BattleFrog, ‘BF’ Now Means “Beginner Friendly”

By |March 28th, 2016|

BattleFrog Series is nothing if not ambitious; scaling an event from 3-6 events is a big deal, and moving into a new state is fraught with difficulty on levels of magnitude to putting on an event in your home market - ask any race company in (or out) of business now. What BFS did is beyond definition, and beyond reckless for any other event to even attempt. The sport is littered with the carcasses of races that tried, yet this is not a homage to their failures, it's a nod to the audacity of BattleFrog's ownership and executive management; they have a plan of action that would make any CPA tremble.

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Day 17

By |March 3rd, 2016|

Today was the same routine: Wake up at 3 am. Start walking at 4 am. Run/Walk 5 miles. Pit Stop. Run/Walk 5 miles. Pit stop. Over and over until the finish line for the day. Today’s finish line was an exciting one! Adam hit the New Mexico border! Ultra pal ran with Adam the last 30 miles of the day and finished at the New Mexico border with Adam. To shake things up a bit at the pit stops, Adam’s wife Karen started playing Pass the Popcorn to give Adam fun trivia since he’s a big movie guy.

SoCal Spartan Weekend – A Study in Contrasts

By |February 7th, 2016|

Spartan Race kicked off its 2016 season in Southern California last weekend with back to back races at Vail Lake in Temecula. Immediately obvious on arriving at the venue was the distressing lack of water in the lake; with a drop of at least 10-15’ of depth since our last visit back in September, it was clear that the long California drought is far from over. This also left exposed a vast mud plain that was once the lake bottom and would play a role in the race.

We are OCR – Mud Mulisha Race Series Crew

By |September 18th, 2015|

I recently had a chance to chat with Jay wright and Steve Hornick, the team behind the creation and execution of the Mud Mulisha Obstacle Course Run series. Having just completed the Shawnigan Lake 6km Mud Mulisha obstacle course race with my husband, I wanted to understand why the team of Jay and Steve loved the mud so much, and why they decided to create a race series of their own.

Any of you who follow my race reviews know that I am always open to try new things and we gals love an adventure.  Last weekend we were pleasantly surprised by a new event that just launched in our own neck of the woods; it was a great short drive to the race site and there was an element of intrigue as we were only given snippets of information prior to race day.
