It finally happened, after 5 seasons in obstacle course racing, I finally made my way to a Tough Mudder event. For years now I've been saying the only event they put on that I am interested in is the annual World's Toughest Mudder but this year they changed that with the introduction of their 6 race America's Toughest Mudder series. After the "South" event, I can now say that I am officially onboard with Mudder Nation.
When I talk about ultrarunning or obstacle racing to the lay public, a frequent response that I get is a look of shock and awe, then the question: “Why?” Sometimes it comes with some clarification like, “why do you do that to yourself?” or “why do you pay for that?”

This year Tough Mudder has introduced a new race series called “Toughest” Mudder. These are meant to be mini-World’s Toughest Mudders and can bridge the gap between 10-mile Tough Mudder’s and the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM).

One of the joys of running a new event series that promises to bring obstacles to a new level and enhance the competition of the event like we haven’t seen before is that we don’t know what we’re getting into. It’s like jumping off a 37ft cliff: it’s scary, but we’ll survive somehow. Tougher Mudder, the newest addition to the Tough Mudder brand brings competitive racing to the longtime obstacle racing brand. Tough Mudder was hinted at earlier this year but today the official release and information regarding the competitive heat for the action sports company. This year Tough Mudder will give away over $350,000 in prize money at Tougher Mudder.
This week, Tough Mudder announces new sponsorship and new event distance, Spartan Race Announces, Bear Grylls event canceled, Mud Hero Announces Concrete Rush, and Survival Runners raising money for clean water.
Today, Tough Mudder announced a new offering to their event line-up with the announcement of Tough Mudder 5k. Tough Mudder 5k is set to be an urban version of the event series with ten of the best Tough Mudder obstacles showcased at Nissan Stadium on August 12, 2017.
Vega® and Tough Mudder officially announced yesterday a new partnership for 2017. Vega will be the official protein shake partner at Tough Mudder and Tough Mudder Half events according to the press release put out yesterday. Vega and their plant-based products will be available at races for athletes to sample.
