In March I started my 2017 OCR season freezing my butt off at Greek Peak doing a Spartan Race Sprint in 10 degrees with the ground covered in ice and this past weekend I saw it come to an end in Vernon New Jersey at the Spartan Race Super amongst the beautiful changing leaves. If there is one thing I learned I’ll need to do if I plan on continuing to race (which I do) ..is I may want to consider investing in some climbing gear and incorporate it into my training.
What do you get when you combine mud, friends, ice water, mud, an obstacle called Skidmarked and oh yeah did I mention mud??? You get Tough Mudder held at Raceway Park in Englishtown New Jersey.
Tara Skinner did the Lost Tribe Search and Rescue Race which indulged her love for hiking while adding a new medal to my race adding the title “Endurance Racer” to my resume.
Tara Skinner heads back to Raceway Park for the 2017 Terrain Race held there this past weekend. She breaks down the good, bad, and not so fun parts about the event. But explains why she will still have it on her schedule for 2018.
Pulling up to Malibu Dude Ranch in Milford Pennsylvania for Muckstock I saw smiling, bearded men in motorcycle gear. I soon realized these were members of Vetstock and they were there to help with parking.
If you were to hear the words Orange County, New York, things that come to mind might be Woodbury Commons Outlets, apple picking, West Point or Orange County Choppers. What you may not think of is high caliber OCR training. Spartan Race Pro team member Kevin Donoghue is hoping to change that.
I stayed a little closer to home and ran Rugged Maniac. And I’m glad I did. I have nothing against a more challenging race and I do those as well but I don’t feel the need to beat up my body every time I step onto a course. Sometimes It’s just about having a good time and being with amazing people and that’s what I found at Rugged.
Tough Mudder asks, “When Was The Last Time You Did Something For The First Time?” I am going to take it a step further and add, “When was the last time you TRULY felt like part of a team?”
I started my Spartan Race journey in Tuxedo NY back in 2013. I went into that race having no idea what to expect and with no “special” training. Fast forward 4 years and I returned to do my 12th. Spartan Race. There were a few things that made this different from all the other years..but more on that later. This is one of my favorite venues for two reasons. It is super close to my house and the terrain makes for one of the hardest sprints Spartan puts on.
Since so many people have been complaining that Spartan Races are becoming stale, they decided to call upon the weather Gods and order a huge rainstorm for the Spartan Race sprint at Citifield to mix things up. OK so maybe this isn’t true, BUT the weather was another obstacle we had to deal with.
