The weekend of the summer solstice welcomed obstacle course racers to the first ever Black Ops 12 hour race at the Boneyard OCR Compound, just south of Barrhead, Alberta, Canada. Although it was the weekend with the most sunlight of the year, racers and crew still had to grind their way through 7 hours of caliginous night.
I took a trip up to Minnesota to check out Warrior Dash in between binge-shopping at The Mall of America. As a bonus, they now offer a kids race for ages 3-9, which means my daughter (who is three) would get a chance to play on some obstacles.
Our community members are the backbone of Mud Run Guide. As American's celebrated the 4th of July obstacle racers around the world continue to show their moxie on the course week after week. This week's community members of the week square off at Rugged Maniac and Spartan.
While arriving at the Terrain Race on June 23rd, 2018 in West Virginia few indicators stood out about how this race was going to go down. Mud was the theme of the day. From participants covered in mud to a festival that looked like a war movie set in some remote jungle.
As I’ve talked about before, everyone comes to an event with a different goal in mind. Some people would be happy to finish, while others are going for speed, and still, others are competing against each other to go even faster. In the Tough Mudder community, the ambassadors have started recognizing Mudders that Assist 100 Mudders through at least one obstacle during a single event.
After WarmUp showed some love on my Instagram page, my curiosity grew. Having already dabbled in protein coffee powders, I was curious how WarmUp would compare. I’ve run the entire bag WarmUp sent me through the ringer, testing all imaginable trials from the plain Jane black coffee to a frozen frap-style concoction that would put that popular corner coffee shop to absolute shame.
June 23rd, 2018 I found myself in Payette, Idaho and 2 years ago to the day, this is the race that gave birth to my love for the sport that is OCR. It is also one of only 3 Spartan Sprints that can be run in the Pacific Northwest (Yes, the PNW isn't all rain and gloom, we have deserts and sun as well) so it is always one of my home area races that I try to get into the roster.
Obstacle Course Racing has been one of the most exhilarating new fitness trends of the twenty-first century; making headlines in not just North America, but globally. Nearly 80% of adults 18-25 are familiar with the craze, and even my grandparents are coloring themselves intrigued. Noticeably, Crossfit gyms and boot camps are expanding their services to offer OCR training and profit off this new fitness craze.
I had the opportunity this summer to take my daughter with me to various races and experience how a few different companies execute their kid's races. This article is going to discuss a few of those races. I live in the Northeast so the races that I have chosen are Bonefrog Challenge, Terrain Race, and Savage Race.
