Race Recap: Savage Race Ohio

By |June 17th, 2016|

The Ohio Savage Race is an event that I have been looking forward to all year after having attended last year at the same venue. Those of you following along at home may remember that last year I gave high praise to the event and was so bold to suggest that Savage may need to be considered a serious contender to “The Big Three”. I can firmly say that numbers be damned, Savage is securely one of the top obstacle course racing series in the business.

Race Recap: Green Beret Challenge – Burnet, Texas

By |June 16th, 2016|

After a week of floods and rain in Texas, the weather blessedly cleared as The Green Beret Challenge welcomed us to Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, TX. You have the option to run solo or as part of 2 or 4 person team. Not knowing the people on my team (due to jumping into an open slot at the last minute) nor having run GBC before I showed up Saturday morning, I was not entirely sure what to expect.

Race Recap: Rugged Maniac Kitchener, Ontario

By |June 12th, 2016|

For the past three years I have been trying to get to a Rugged Maniac and finally, this year, I was able to make that a reality. The race was held at the Chicopee Ski Resort in Kitchener, Ontario. This resort is steeped in history dating back to 1805. With multiple ski runs available, it provided racers with a variety of elevations that were well marked and evenly cleared.

Race Recap: Warrior Dash Toronto, Ontario 2016

By |June 11th, 2016|

Years ago, Warrior Dash was my first dip into OCR, I felt obliged to try it again four years and 92 races later. It was a super-hot day and in hindsight, perhaps, I should have postponed participating but as we continue to race our obsession sometimes takes over our better judgement. The race was held at the Mohawk Racetrack outside of Toronto, Canada and provided a flat, fast course.

Read on and find out what went down on race day.

Race Recap: Mud Hero Ottawa

By |June 9th, 2016|

For the past three years, we have been attending the Mud Hero Ottawa events and this year was no exception for providing a fun event for the whole family. This was the third year for this event at this location and it is well suited with its varied terrain and interesting structures sprinkled throughout the course. Located just south-east of Ottawa, it was easily accessible and supported the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Race Recap: Monterey Spartan Race Super

By |June 8th, 2016|

This past weekend marked the 2nd race in the NBC Spartan Series, the Spartan Super in Monterey, California. As such, it drew a huge crowd to this otherwise sleepy coastal town, and this included a completely stacked elite field. I don't normally pay too much attention to the elite runners; in many ways they are almost a different species from the rest of us and I'm usually on the course before their race is over. This time around, a little later start time of 10 AM afforded me the opportunity to watch the end of the elite races and it couldn't have been a more exciting finish!

His and Her Race Recap: Tough Mudder Philly 2016

By |May 26th, 2016|

This was a great course! The light rain made for a perfect storm of both challenge and fun. In 2016, Tough Mudder has thrown more team-building obstacles into the course. In a non-timed event, the teamwork element allowed many mudders including myself, a chance to hang around obstacles and help others out. I am already excited for my next Tough Mudder event!

Race Recap: Mud Guts and Glory Spring 2016

By |May 24th, 2016|

To anyone familiar with this race venue, many images immediately appear in the mind of the competitor. Oregonia Ohio is the home to Kings Domain; a 120-acre park which would normally host conferences, weddings, and leisurely hiking. Today it was to host the venue known to many: Mud Guts and Glory.
