Race Recap – Rugged Maniac – South Caroliona

    By |March 17th, 2016|

Rugged Maniac kicked off its 2016 season with about 5,000 participants in South Carolina on Saturday. It was a beautiful day in the low 70’s – about 30 degrees warmer than last year! The venue, historic Boone Hall Farms, was the same but the event had a distinctly different feel this year compared with the previous four years I’ve run this course. The new vibe this year wasn’t just on the course, but off the course as well.

Race Recap – 2016 Atlanta Spartan Sprint

      By |March 16th, 2016|

The weather was perfect, nice and brisk in the morning followed by a beautiful sunny afternoon. The venue is great will plenty of hills, even a cliff, lots of water, and of course Georgia red clay. Spartan once again scouted this venue, third time at the International Horse Park in Conyers, and put together a great use of the terrain.

South Africa Report: Jeep Warrior Race Recap

        By |March 15th, 2016|

This weekend the Warrior Race raised its muddy head once again, and the OCR athletes of South Africa came from far and near to meet the challenge of this year’s second Warrior race. Although the Warrior is famous for its muddy obstacles, the weather decided to add a little spice by raining torrentially for 3 days prior to the elite race on Sunday.

Race Recap: Terrain Mud Run Dallas, TX

          By |March 10th, 2016|

Terrain Race Dallas was an excellent race to kick off our OCR racing season after taking the first two months of 2016 off. The race was held at Village Creek Motorcross in Fort Worth, TX and they offer both a 5K and 10K distance with competitive waves in both distances. We chose the 5K race. I was a bit apprehensive about the race being held on a motocross site because I envisioned endless loops on a dirt course up impossibly steep climbs and barreling down the ensuing declines.

Race Recap: Hannibal Race- Awkar, Lebanon

            By |March 10th, 2016|

I was super excited when I found out I would have another chance to race in the Middle East. Timing for international races does not always pan out, especially when a country only has one race series. The Hannibal Race held their first race of 2016 in Awkar a neighborhood in Beirut, Lebanon.

Race Recap – Warrior Dash – Texas, 2016

              By |March 9th, 2016|

This was an inaugural race in a few ways. First, it was the inaugural Warrior Dash of the 2016 season. It was the first Warrior Dash qualification method for OCRWC after making the decision to drop their individual Championship event. Finally, of all the races I’ve competed in, it was actually my first Warrior Dash. This event left me dizzy (more on that later) and a tad underwhelmed since they are considered one of “The Big Three”.

                Race Recap: Ragnarok Run

                By |March 8th, 2016|

As OCR facilities pop up throughout various towns, it is nice to see that we are finally getting a few permanent outdoor facilities up and running. The Ragnarok Run was held at OCR Land in Smiths Falls, Ontario and attracted racers from Ontario and Quebec.

                    Spartan Kids Race AZ

                    By |March 3rd, 2016|

Spartan Race rolled into Arizona on Saturday, February 27, 2016 with a sprint distance of just over 4 miles. As they do at every US Spartan Race in 2016, two types were offered for the Kid's Race, the 1/2 mile "Jr. Varsity" and the 1 mile "Varsity" distances.

Race Recap: Spartan Race Arizona 2016

                      By |March 2nd, 2016|

As I fly to work meetings I have on the east coast, I'm reflecting on the weekend that was the Spartan Arizona Sprint. Driving to the venue Saturday morning, I got excited as a kid on Christmas Day like I always do before an OCR event. But this time, I wasn't getting mentally prepared, focusing on how I would attack the race and other pre-race rituals I have come to do before a race.
