Inside the Spartan Agoge Class 002

These haunting words linger in my mind in the aftermath of one of the toughest and most interesting events I've participated in; the 60h Spartan Agoge Class 002 which took place this weekend in Pittsfield, Vermont.

Spartan Race – when volunteering SUCKS

Race volunteers are an integral part of any race. I have heard stories from racers, when a volunteer made their day with an encouraging word when it was most needed. What about volunteers themselves? What is their experience like?

Today, Tough Mudder announced a multi-year partnership with Team Rubicon, the only nonprofit disaster response organization that mobilizes military veterans to support communities devastated by natural disasters. Last Week in OCR: Father’s Day Weekend

We raced in the stadiums, mountains, cities and waterfalls. Up bleachers, through rivers, and past casinos. We had the big names in the industry met with up-and-comers and local one-offs. The podiums were packed with the wonderfully insane men and women of our community, and even Father’s Day was mud-splattered.

OCR Short Course Revolution

For years, the obstacle racing industry has talked about the short course time and time again. The most famous and vocal proponent of the concept has been OCR racer Hobie Call. His vision of the sport in the future is a short course laid out in a stadium where people can watch all the action. Over the weekend, at the Spartan Race Dallas Stadium Race after the main heats were complete a version of that vision was realized. The IORF revealed a standard stadium format course, in conjunction with USA Pentathlon and delivered by Spartan Race.

Savage Race, Ohio – Race Recap

Mad River Mountain: Zanesville OH was the sight for this year’s Savage Race Ohio.  The event has been held at this location for some years, and the success of the Savage series would not disappoint. A hot morning brought the competitors to the Mad River Mountain ski facility in Zanesfield, OH (a short distance Northwest of Columbus).  Serene farmlands entailed the drive up to the location in the rural area; with its unassuming lack of hills?  Rounding the last turn unveiled where they were hiding, and Savage Race found them.

Gear Review: Road ID

If you are looking for an extra layer of safety or looking for a gift for a loved one, Road ID has some great options. It is a simple concept and a simple design, but a good idea for anyone that spends time on the road or trail training. The Road ID bracelet is a simple rubber band that has a metal nameplate attached to it.

Race Recap: Savage Race Ohio

The Ohio Savage Race is an event that I have been looking forward to all year after having attended last year at the same venue. Those of you following along at home may remember that last year I gave high praise to the event and was so bold to suggest that Savage may need to be considered a serious contender to “The Big Three”. I can firmly say that numbers be damned, Savage is securely one of the top obstacle course racing series in the business.
