Spartan Honor Series West Point Sprint was a trail of tears, fears, and cheers. Before the race even started, social media was full of tears about the poor parking logistics. More on that later. Many fears were faced today as the terrain of this “easy rolling hills” advertised race was anything but. Cheers echoed around those hills however as Spartans and veterans conquered obstacles of every sort.
It's billed as the 'Rumble at the Rose Bowl'. Every year for the past seven years, Dan 'Nitro' Clark (of American Gladiator fame) brings his Gladiator Rock 'N Run to Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and I've had the pleasure of participating for the last three. Always a fun event, Dan strives to make sure the participants always have a good time, and there's a fun, family atmosphere at the venue. This year was no exception.

When Anne Champagne toed the line over the weekend at the Spartan Ultra Beast in Stoneham she was ready to run. However, no one expected the what would happen over the next eight hours. Not only did Champagne take home the victory for women in 8:12:55 but also bested all the men in the race with Jean Cardinal finishing over 45 minutes after Champagne in 9:04:29.
With the U.S. Championship series wrapped up a few weeks ago in Utah. West Virginia hosted the Spartan North American Championships over the weekend with top racers earning a coin into the 2018 Spartan World Championships. The race took place August 25 - 26 in Glen Jean, West Virginia.
