Find Your Squad or A Love Letter to a Bunch of Misfits

One small problem—no one in my circles of friends, family, or acquaintances knew what OCR stood for, literally or figuratively. Not one to let that take the proverbial wind out of my sails, I did what anyone looking for reliable information would do—I took to the magical realm of social media.

Badass Women of OCR: Jen Hamel

With Jen Hamel, I have been following her / talking to her online for a couple of years now. She is very humble, hardworking and isn’t afraid to open up about her story. She has a generous and loving heart and has gone from being over 200 pounds and a pack a day smoker to someone that pushes her own mental and physical limits when it comes to racing.

A Personal Cautionary Tale: Endurance OCR, Fluids, NSAIDs and Kidney Failure

Story told by Jason Nicholson with help from Margaret (Molly) Kenneth FNP-C & Wesley Kerr MD-PhD I feel proud, happy, accomplished, annoyed, and ashamed when I think about World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) 2016.  I’m proud to say that I completed thirteen laps/65 miles, finished the 24-hour race, and placed 95th overall out of 1,251 athletes. Mud, Sweat, Volunteer!!

After running many varied races from New York to South Carolina, I started to factor in expenses while traveling. So, while searching race websites, I noticed a volunteer section. Bingo! I can volunteer at races. I can either volunteer first and then run the race, race then volunteer, or simply use a free race credit or discount to run a future race.

The 2017 OCR World Championships Race Experience

You could feel the nervous tension in the air at the OCR World Championships at dusk on Thursday night. In 12 short hours, the first racers of the weekend would be taking their mark.  Athletes from 67 different nations were congregating around the obstacles as the finishing touches were being made.  Strategies were developing and although we did not speak the same languages, you could tell we were all thinking the same thing; this course is going to be brutal.

Race Recap – Spartan Stadium Sprint Series: Citizen’s Bank Park

Since my last Spartan Race in this series at Citifield last year, much has changed.  They made registration a lot easier by almost getting the whole thing down to one question and one screen.  “What’s your name?  Sign here.”  From their perspective, this was a positive indication of more good things to come yesterday at the Citizen's Bank Park Stadium Sprint.

Race Recap: Warrior Dash Oregon

After years of missing this event due to conflicts in personal, business or racing schedules, I was finally able to take on Warrior Dash Oregon, a muddy 5K that continues to attract thousands of participants each every year. It’s always a great day for OCR when you can eat breakfast before and shower after the race at home.
