In obstacle course racing there are always those big races we all hear about but once in a while, there comes along a small local race that does it just right and can compete against some of the bigger names. One of those is Eagles Nest Training, in Smith Falls, Ontario – Canada.
Spartan Race announces a new way for civilians to participate side by side with the military in the Spartan Race Honor Series. The series kicks off on April 8 as part of the "Best Ranger" Competition. The first event kicks off with the Spartan Ranger Challenge Sprint where the race will combine parts of the "Best Ranger" competition into a Sprint distance event.
In this first test, I just checked the GPS and pace quickly, but really was geeked up to test out the wireless headphones. Ashley Samples is nothing but ordinary. She won her age group at OCR World Championships in 2015, came in first place in 9 races this year (and accomplishing this while pregnant). Ashley was nominated in the Best Female OCR Racer category in the Mud Run Guide Best of OCR Awards. This season (January-August) she competed in 20 races in 9 states and won a race on 3 different continents.
Survival Run Nicaragua took place for the fifth year on the island of Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, Nicaragua. The extreme endurance challenge, called by many one of the hardest races in the world, had fifty-one athletes toe the starting line on Friday afternoon. Warrior Dash continues to partner with large companies around the United States and beyond. Yesterday, Warrior Dash announced a continued partnership with State Farm for the 2017 obstacle racing season. Year after year Warrior Dash continues to be a fan favorite when it comes to a fun 5K obstacle race.
A lone sentinel stands guard over the sole surviving bastion of full-time OCR in the southern half of New Jersey. ABF Mud Run is a shell of its former self. Some moved to Texas. Others like myself are still out there rucking from place to place looking for a home base. Some moved to South Jersey OCR.
The Tough Mudder Head Quarters (TMHQ) has been very busy the past week or so talking about their new event series and many other updates to their season. Between the World’s Toughest podcast, a Facebook live Q&A and a website update, there has been a lot of new content in a lot of different sources.
Last month I posted an article about, “Do Championships Need to Move?” Check it out if you haven’t read it yet. I assume at some point one or all three of the big championship events (OCR World Championships, World’s Toughest Mudder or Spartan Race World Championship) will move overseas.
