Opinion: Do Championships Need to Move?

2017’s OCR Championships line-up is scheduled to be the same. World’s Toughest Mudder will be in Las Vegas for its fourth year, Spartan Race in Tahoe for its third year and OCR World Championship in Blue Mountain Canada for its second year. While some were ecstatic at the news, others seemed disappointed hoping for a new venue. I even heard several “Well it has to move overseas otherwise it is not a real world championship” and "They need to change locations next year."

Obstacle Racing Enters College at Texas A&M University

It’s undeniable that while OCR has budded beautifully over the last decade, the younger population amongst those in attendance has been noticeably non-existent, to say the least. Sure, high school and college-aged kids might drop by to run a race one weekend with a group of their friends, but when it comes to the competitive side of things, things don’t get super serious until around the mid-twenty age range.

Badass Women of OCR: Melissa “Sharkbait” Dugan

Melissa is in a few words a loud and proud woman in the OCR community. Many of us know her as Sharkbait but how many of us actually know her? It’s never easy as a newer writer in the OCR community to reach out to amazing athletes such as Melissa, but I was floored when I sent her a message on facebook and she agreed to let me interview her.

Race Recap: Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race 2017

Well, it seems this is becoming an annual charity event for our racing group. This is the third year we have ventured east, and it is always a new challenge when it comes to the weather. This night was no exception to that rule. Previous years were pouring rain or knee deep snow with frigid wind chills; this time brought us pea soup fog and a sprinkle of mild drizzle. Meaning the snow, was non-existent and icy patches dotted the trails adding an element of potential dread.

Week #2 – I’m a Runner, Not a Hood Ornament

For the umpteenth time, I was nearly killed by a car running a stop sign. Now, I've been actually hit and thrown across a hood at least twice in the past, and have been extremely lucky to avoid injury. Learning from those experiences, I now take a great deal of caution at intersections. Last night, if I took one more step I'd be extremely lucky to be writing this, and most likely would be doing so from a hospital bed. There's a good chance I may even be dead.
